Belehalt sérüléseibe egy férfi, aki a kerítésen átmászva behatolt az oroszlánok kifutójába a ghánai főváros, Accra állatkertjében vasárnap, és akire az egyik nagymacska rátámadt.
A vadon élő állatok védelmével foglalkozó kormányhivatal közleménye szerint a tragédia déltájban történt, a már élettelen férfi testét egy rutinellenőrzés alkalmával vették észre. A holttest kiemelése idejére a kifutóban élő négytagú oroszláncsaládot átmenetileg kiköltöztették. A hatóságok megnyugtatták a lakosságot, hogy az incidens során egyetlen oroszlán sem szabadult ki a főváros Achimota Forest nevű elővárosában lévő állatkertből.
A rendőrség vizsgálatot indított. Egyelőre nem tudni, hogy a középkorú férfi miért mászott át a biztonsági korláton.
Az accrai állatkertet az 1960-as évek elején alapította Ghána első elnöke, Kwame Nkrumah, eredetileg saját örömére. Az elnök hatalmának 1996-os megdöntése után az intézményt megnyitották a nagyközönség előtt.
