A lap szerint a baleset bekövetkeztekor a közép-jávai Cilacepből érkező 11 turista volt a gyaloghídon. Közülük ketten az alattuk beszakadó üvegen keresztül a mélybe zuhantak, egyikük pedig olyan súlyos sérüléseket szenvedett, hogy életét vesztette.
A másik turista könnyebb sérülésekkel megúszta a zuhanást, két továbbinak pedig a korlátba sikerült belekapaszkodniuk.
Közben kiderült, hogy korábban több panasz is érkezett a látogatóktól a híd biztonságosságával kapcsolatban, ám annak üzemeltetője nem jelent meg a felülvizsgálatát célzó találkozón, mindössze egy képviselőt küldött maga helyett.
