Legalább 19 ember meghalt és többtucatnyian megsérültek Nepálban, miután a kormány ellen tüntető fiatalok összecsaptak a rendvédelmi erőkkel az ország fővárosában, Katmanduban hétfőn – írta a BBC.
A Z generációs fiatalok azután hirdettek tüntetést a parlament épületéhez, miután a nepáli kormány a múlt héten bevezette a Facebook, a YouTube és az X korlátozását. A kormány szerint az álhírek, a gyűlöletkeltő beszéd és az online átverések terjedése miatt volt szükség a platformok szabályozására, amivel viszont kiváltották a fiatal nepáliak haragját. Ezen kívül a kormány iránti általános elégedetlenség, valamint a kormányzati korrupció mértéke is az utcára vitte a tüntetőket.
A tüntetők többek között „Elég volt”, „Véget kell vetni a korrupciónak”, „A korrupciót blokkoljátok, ne a közösségi médiát!” és „Fiatalok a korrupció ellen” feliratú transzparensekkel vonultak. A tüntetők között többségében fiatalok és diákok voltak, köztük sokan az iskolai egyenruhájukat viselték – írta az MTI.
Nepálban sokan úgy gondolják, hogy a korrupció virágzik, és azért is bírálják a kormányt, mert nem teljesítették az ország régóta fennálló gazdasági problémáinak megoldására tett ígéreteiket. Néhányan azt is mondták, hogy a kormány autoriter hozzáállása ellen tiltakoznak. A Reuters beszámolója szerint a tiltakozók a rendőrségi kordont áttörve a katmandui parlament épületébe is megkíséreltek betörni, felgyújtottak egy mentőautót, és tárgyakat dobáltak a rohamrendőrökre. A parlament épületénél Nepálban tilos demonstrálni, ezért a rendőrök ott szögesdrótakadályokkal tartóztatták fel a tiltakozókat.
Nepál kommunikációs minisztere, Prithvi Subba a BBC-nek azt mondta, hogy a rendőrségnek erőszakot kellett alkalmaznia a tömeg feloszlatásához, többek között vízágyúkat, könnygázt és gumilövedékeket is bevetettek. A Katmandu Civil Kórház több mint 150 sérültet fogadott be – állította az intézmény egyik szóvivője, Randzsana Nepal. „A kórházban soha nem tapasztaltam ilyen káoszt” – nyilatkozta az AFP-nek. „A könnygáz elárasztotta a helyiségeket, és megnehezítette az orvosok munkáját” – mondta.
A hétfői tüntetés után a rendőrség kijárási tilalmat vezetett be a parlament környékén. Az erőszak az este későbbi óráiban alábbhagyott, bár a tüntetők továbbra is a parlament környékén tartózkodtak.

A hanganyagokban többször is elhangzik a „szuperadmin” kifejezés, ami a cikk szerint olyan adminokat jelent, akik minden személyes adathoz hozzáférnek. De az amerikai felhasználók adataival kapcsolatban az is elhangzik, hogy „mindent látunk itt Kínában”.
A Google és az Apple egyelőre nem reagált a felszólításra, de egy ilyen levél önmagában semmire sem kötelezheti az amerikai cégeket.

A Reuters értesülései szerint hat médiaszövetség közös nyilatkozatban közölte, hogy a kormány jogi lépései “a média és a nyilvánosság által élvezett szólásszabadság elnyomásának szándékát” mutatják.
