Trumpot a P01135809-es számú rabként vették nyilvántartásba, és ő lett az első volt elnök, akiről arckép készült. Amikor elhagyta Georgiát, Trump az újságíróknak tagadta, hogy bármi törvénybe ütközőt tett volna.
Trumpnak és 18 vádlott-társának péntek déli 12 óráig kell önként feladnia magát, miután a Georgia államban vádat emeltek ellenük a 2020-as választások felforgatásával kapcsolatos büntetőeljárásban.
A volt amerikai elnököt azzal vádolják a vádiratban, hogy egy „bűnszervezet” vezetőjeként része volt egy széles körű összeesküvésnek, amelynek célja az volt, hogy elkerüljék a 2020-as elnökválasztási vereségét Georgia államban.
A CNN beszámolója szerint Fani Willis Fulton megyei kerületi ügyész azt kéri, hogy mind a 19 ember tárgyalása október 23-án kezdődjön, ami rendkívül ambiciózus ütemterv. Trump ellenzi a javasolt tárgyalási időpontot, közölték a volt elnök ügyvédei csütörtökön.
Donald Trump 200 ezer dollár óvadék ellenében távozott a börtönből. Az óvadéki megállapodás értelmében a volt elnök nem beszélhet, illetve kommunikálhat a nyilvánosság előtt tanúkat, illetve vádlottársait „megfélemlítő” módon. Az ügyész és a védők között megállapodás megsértése bebörtönzéssel járhat.
Az atlantai börtönben való megjelenése előtt Donald Trump lecserélte korábbi védőügyvédjét egy helyi jogászra, a „fehérgalléros” ügyekre szakosodott Steven Sadowra. A jogász közleményben erősítette meg a felkérést, és azt írta, hogy a Georgia államban indult vádeljárás során ő képviseli majd Donald Trumpot. Hozzátette, hogy véleménye szerint ügyfelét soha nem lett volna szabad megvádolni a felhozott cselekményekkel, amelyekben ártatlan – számolt be róla az MTI.
