A német hatóságok pénteken indítottak vizsgálatot, miután az elkövetők horogkereszteket és más náci szimbólumokat festettek az egykori buchenwaldi koncentrációs tábor helyén működő emlékhely tábláira.
Az incidens csütörtök este történt, a rongálásban pedig két közlekedési tábla és az emlékhely térképét tartalmazó tábla érintett, amelyeket ismeretlen elkövetők festettek le, a rendőrség pedig nem sokkal az incidens után eltávolította a helyszínről a táblákat.
Az emlékhelyet működtető Buchenwald és Mittelbau-Dora Emlékhely Alapítvány megdöbbentőnek nevezte az esetet, s egy „visszataszító támadásként” utalt a történtekre, amely az áldozatok méltóságát és az ő munkájukat is mélyen sérti – számolt be a DW.
A buchenwaldi koncentrációs tábort és a hozzá tartozó szatellit-táborokat 1937-ben hozták létre, ahol 280 ezer embert tartottak fogva, köztük zsidókat, hadifoglyokat és politikai foglyokat, akiket elsősorban kényszermunkásként dolgoztattak a közeli hadiüzemekben.
A rabok közül több mint 56 ezer ártatlant gyilkoltak meg, mielőtt a tábort 1945-ben felszabadították volna. Ma múzeum és emlékhely található az egykori koncentrációs tábor helyén.
