Volodimir Zelenszkij ukrán elnök szombat este elrendelte a donyecki régió ukrán ellenőrzés alatt álló településeinek kötelező kiürítését.
Az államfő videoüzenetében elmondta: „a háború jelenlegi szakaszában Oroszország legfőbb fegyvere a terror”.
„A területen – ahol jelenleg ádáz harc dúl – még mindig százezrek élnek. Minél többen elhagyják Donyecket, annál kevesebb embert tud megölni az orosz hadsereg” – tette hozzá Zelenszkij, aláhúzva, hogy a lakosság tiltakozása ellenére az evakuáció elkerülhetetlen.
Az elnök azt kérte az ukránoktól, hogy beszéljenek a régióban élő ismerőseikkel, és győzzék meg őket a távozás szükségességéről.
Hangsúlyozta: a távozók kárpótlást fognak kapni.
Ukrán hírforrások szerint Irina Verescsuk ukrán miniszterelnök-helyettes azt mondta: az evakuációra még tél előtt sort kell keríteni, mert a térség gázellátását ellehetetlenítették.

Mariupol van a legrosszabb és legnehezebb helyzetben az ukrajnai háborúban, több ezren veszthették életüket a városban, amit a helyszíni fotók és videók alapján lassan a földdel tehetnek egyenlővé, olyan súlyosak és nagymértékűek a károk.
Ami ennél is nagyobb probléma, hogy becslések szerint mintegy 100 ezren rekedtek a városban, akik alig jutnak élelemhez és vízhez. Nagyon súlyos és kritikus a helyzet, sokan várnak kimenekítésre, amit a Vöröskereszt igyekszik abszolválni.
A Sky News beszámolója szerint a Vöröskereszt ma újabb kísérletre készül, hogy kimenekítse azokat a civileket, akik el akarják hagyni a várost. Egy konvoj indulhat meg szombaton az ukrán városba, amin keresztül elszállítanák az embereket
Az ICRC pénteken egy nagyobb csapatot küldött Mariupolba, mely összesen 54 autóbuszt és más magánjárműveket tartalmazott, hogy azok segítségével felvehessék az embereket. A konvoj végül nem ért célt, mert miután túl veszélyesnek ítélték meg a körülményeket, visszafordultak.
