A gázai háborúval összefüggésben megszaporodtak az amerikai létesítmények elleni támadások Szíriában és Irakban, miközben az Egyesült Államok katonai támogatást nyújt Izraelnek. „Az amerikai katonai erők önvédelmi csapást mértek egy kelet-szíriai telephelyre, amelyet az Iszlám Forradalmi Gárda és a hozzá kapcsolódó csoportok használnak” – derült ki a Pentagon vezetőjének közleményéből.
„Ezt a csapást két amerikai F-15-ös (típusú) repülőgép hajtotta végre egy fegyverraktár ellen” – tette hozzá a tárcavezető. A katonai akció válasz volt az amerikai személyzet ellen Irakban és Szíriában elkövetett támadássorozatra, olyan támadásokra, amelyeket az Irán-barát erőknek tulajdonítottak.
Két héten belül ez volt a második amerikai megtorló csapás Szíriában. Lloyd Austin figyelmeztetett, hogy az Egyesült Államok „teljes mértékben készen áll arra, hogy más szükséges lépéseket tegyen” csapatai és létesítményei védelme érdekében.

Néhány napja támadást hajtott végre a luhanszki Novoszelivszke térségében állomásozó orosz csapatok ellen az ukrán hírszerzés irányítása alá tartozó Kraken különleges műveleti egység.
Eleinte arról voltak hírek, hogy a Kraken (immár harmadik alkalommal) vissza is foglalta Novoszelivszkét.

Ugyanakkor nemrég kikerült az első hiteles videó az akcióról: a Kraken támadása során megsemmisült egy orosz BTR-80-as páncélozott szállító harcjármű, egy BMP-3-as gyalogsági harcjármű és találatot kapott egy T-90M harckocsi is. A T-90M a videón nem semmisül meg, azonban az, hogy a találat után meg sem mozdul, jelentheti azt, hogy súlyos sérülést szenvedett.
