Több dél-európai országban enyhült a kánikula, már sehol nem mérnek 40 fok feletti hőmérsékletet, de ez még nem jelenti azt, hogy az erdőtüzeket is sikerült legyőzni mindenhol. A francia riviérán is van már halottja a tüzeknek, de kritikus a helyzet Portugália déli részén is. És rövid szünet után újra teljes erővel kell dolgozniuk a görög tűzoltóknak, mert Athén környékén megint baj van – közölte az M1 Híradója.
Hatalmas lángokkal ég az erdő a dél-franciaországi Var régióban, nem messze a francia riviérától. A népszerű üdülővárostól, Saint-Tropez-tól nagyjából 50 kilométerre fekvő hegyekben még hétfőn gyulladt meg a növényzet a térséget átszelő autópálya mellett.
Azóta több mint 1200 tűzoltó küzd a tűzzel, amely az óriási szárazság miatt hamar továbbterjedt. Szerdáig már hétezer hektárnyi terület égett le, a térség egyik legjelentősebb természetvédelmi területének legalább felét is felperzselték a lángok.
A hatóságok tízezer embert evakuáltak a környéken, köztük számos turistát. Legkevesebb hét kempinget ürítettek ki, közülük az egyiket felperzselte a tűz. Így sem sikerült elkerülni a tragédiát: szerdán egy kiégett házban holttestre bukkantak a hatóságok,
amelyek szerint az oltásban öt tűzoltó is megsérült, és húsz ember szorult orvosi ellátásra füstmérgezés miatt.
Portugáliában, a déli Algarve régióban idén még nem pusztított akkora tűz, mint most. Több mint ezer tűzoltó és száznegyven katona küzd a lángokkal, a hatóságok több utat is lezártak. A tűz hétfőn keletkezett Castro Marim városának környékén, azóta több tucat embernek kellett elhagynia az otthonát. A lángok eddig tízezer hektáron perzselték fel a növényzetet, és több épület is romokban áll.
„Minden leégett, a ruháim az irataim, minden. Nem volt időm megmenteni őket. Nem menekültem el, hanem elbújtam a fürdőszobában, ott ugyanis nem volt olyan bútor ami lángra tudott volna kapni. Megpróbáltam eloltani a lángokat. De mivel nem volt áram, nem volt víz sem. Van egy kutam, de a szivattyú sem működik áram nélkül. Amióta megszülettem, ötvennégy éve, itt éltem” – mondta egy férfi, aki elvesztette a házát.
Athén környékén is két újabb erdőtűz pusztít hétfő óta.
A görög fővárostól északnyugatra és délkeletre is több száz tűzoltó küzd a lángokkal, helikopterekkel és repülőgépekkel is oltanak. Több faluból is ki kellett menekíteni a lakókat.
Görögországban augusztusban több száz helyen kapott lángra a növényzet a rendkívüli szárazságban, de még jelenleg is több mint negyven helyen pusztítanak erdőtüzek. A hatóságok két embert őrizetbe vettek, akiket gyújtogatással gyanúsítanak.
