A koronavírus egyéb változatainak a világon való elterjedtségére vonatkozó statisztikai adatok hasonlóak az előző hetihez: a B.1.1.7 változatot, amely az Egyesült Királyságból származik és a WHO Alfa jellel látott el, 195 országban és területen rögzítették; a dél-afrikai Béta változatot (B.1.351) – 145 országban és területen; a brazil Gamma (P.1) – közel 99 országban.
A WHO jelentése szerint az elmúlt héten (szeptember 27. – október 3.) a Covid-19 okozta megbetegedések száma a világon továbbra is csökken – 3 118 410 esetet regisztráltak. Ez a tendencia augusztus óta figyelhető meg. A halálos áldozatok száma hasonló a múlt heti adatokhoz – 54 221.
A fertőzéses esetek száma ezen a héten 9%-kal csökkent az előző héthez képest, míg a halálos kimenetelű esetek száma a múlt héti adatokhoz viszonyítva változatlan maradt.
Minden régióban csökkent az új esetek számának, kivéve az európai régiót, ahol az adatok hasonlóak a múlt hétivel. Az újabb esetek legnagyobb csökkenését az afrikai régióban (43%), a Földközi-tenger keleti részén (21%), a délkelet-ázsiai régióban (19%), Észak- és Dél-Amerikában (12%), valamint a Csendes-óceán nyugati részén (12%) regisztrálták.
A legtöbb új esetet a múlt héten az Egyesült Államokban (760 571), az Egyesült Királyságban (239 781), Törökországban (197 277), Oroszországban (165 623, 13%-os növekedés) és Indiában (161 158, 21%-os csökkenés) regisztrálták.

Lemberg megyében az orvosok erőfeszítése ellenére meghalt egy 36 éves ukrán férfi, aki a koronavírus Delta-törzsével fertőződött meg, számolt be Natalija Ivancsenko, Lemberg megye egészségügyi főorvosa Facebookon augusztus 21-én.
„A koronavírus Delta-törzse okozta halálát Lemberg megye sztriji járási lakosának, aki mindössze 36 éves volt. Nem volt beoltva. Nem hagyta el Lemberg megyét. A Delta-törzs jelenlétét Ukrajna Egészségügyi Minisztériuma Közegészségügyi Központja referencialaboratóriuma erősítette meg” – írta Ivancsenko.
A Lemberg megyei lakost augusztus 13-án szállították kórházba nagyon súlyos állapotban. Azonnal az intenzív osztályon helyezték el, de életét nem tudták megmenteni, bár az orvosok nyolc napon keresztül folyamatosan a lélegeztetőre kapcsolt beteg mellett voltak. Ivancsenko elmondása szerint a férfi cukorbeteg volt, azaz a kockázati csoportba tartozott, így az elsők között kellett átessen a vakcináción. Ez azonban nem történt meg.

Az augusztus 5-i adatok szerint Ukrajnában 147, Delta-törzs okozta fertőzéses esetet regisztráltak, jelentette be Ihor Kuzin, egészségügyi miniszterhelyettes, országos tiszti főorvos az Ukrajisznszke Ragyio adásában.
„Ami a Delta-törzset illeti, néhány héttel ezelőtt 17 esetről beszéltünk. Jelenleg 147 esetet erősítettek meg hivatalosan országos szinten. Vagyis a törzs jelen van Ukrajna területén és terjed” – mondta Kuzin.
Elmondása szerint a legtöbb Delta-törzs általi fertőzéses esetet Voliny, Odessza, Ternopil megyékben, Csernyivciben és Kijevben regisztrálták. A tiszti főorvos emlékeztetett, a Delta-törzs gyorsabban terjed, mint a többi variáns, gyakrabban igényel kórházi kezelést, a védőoltás azonban megvéd a Delta-fertőzés ellen.
„Ritkán érkeznek jelentések a vakcina hatékonyságának csökkenéséről, de ez a csökkenés nem jelentős” – mondta Kuzin.
