Tűz pusztított az egyiptomi Iszmáilíja egyik legnagyobb épületében hétfőn, a Szuezi-csatornánál fekvő városban. Az előzetes adatok szerint harmincnyolcan megsérültek – közölte a kairói egészségügyi minisztérium.
A tűz, amelynek eredete nem volt azonnal ismert, a helyi rendőrfőkapitányság épületében tört ki hajnalban, és az interneten közzétett képeken hatalmas lángok voltak láthatók, ahogy az épület több emeletét is elborította a tűz. A MENA állami hírügynökség arról adott hírt, hogy a tűzoltóknak sikerült megfékezniük a lángokat.
Hosszám Abdel-Gaffar, a minisztérium szóvivője tudatta, hogy tizenkét embert a helyszínen láttak el, huszonhatot pedig kórházba kellett vinni; heten közülük azonban már el is hagyhatták a kórházat.
A gyakran rövidzárlatok által okozott tűzesetek nem ritkák a 105 milliós lakosú Egyiptomban, amelynek leromlott és rosszul karbantartott infrastruktúrája van.
Tavaly augusztusban egy véletlenül keletkezett tűzvészben negyvenegy hívő halt meg egy templomban Kairó egyik munkásnegyedének sikátorában. Az eset heves vitát váltott ki az infrastruktúráról és a tűzoltóság reagálási idejéről.
Két éve, 2021 márciusában legalább 20 ember meghalt egy textilgyárban keletkezett tűzben Kairó keleti negyedében. Még korábban, 2020-ban két kórháztűz tizennégy halálos áldozatot követelt.
