Egy dühös elefántbika megtámadta a szafari parkban lévő turistákat Zambiában. Az egyik amerikai nő életét vesztette a támadásban. A tragikus eseményt a kamerák is rögzítették.
Hat turista vadászaton vett részt az afrikai Kafue Nemzeti Parkban. Egy feldühödött elefánt utánuk rohant. A videón látható, ahogy az egyik turista azt mondja, hogy „te jó ég”, miközben az elefánt majdnem utolérte az autót. Az elefánt utolérte őket és megtámadta a turistaautót.
A sofőr rájött, hogy ez nem csak riogatás az állat részéről, és az öt tonnás, három méter magas elefánt támadni készül.
Az állat agyarai beakadnak a szafari teherautó karosszériája alá és az oldalára borította azt. A turisták pánikba estek.
Azt, hogy az amerikai turista hogyan halt meg az incidens során, nem hozták nyilvánosságra.
A teherautón utazó összes turista amerikai volt, és a Lufupa River Campben szálltak meg a Kafue Nemzeti Parkban, amely a világ legrégebbi és második legnagyobb szafariparkja. A táborban 160 000 forintot kell fizetni személyenként egy éjszakára.
Keith Vincent, a park vezérigazgatója megerősítette, hogy egy 80 éves amerikai turista meghalt, egy másik súlyosan megsérült, négy másik turista pedig könnyebb sérüléseket szenvedett. „Egy elefántbika támadt a turistacsoportra. Helikoptert küldtek a helyszínre, és az eset jellegére való tekintettel a rendőrség, a park munkatársai és a minisztérium is részt vesz az ügy kivizsgálásában.
A park igazgatója hozzátette: „Ez egy rendkívül tragikus esemény, és őszinte részvétünket fejezzük ki a turista családjának.”
Az elefántok becslések szerint évente 500 embert ölnek meg Afrikában.
Márciusban a dél-afrikai Gondwana Private Game Reserve 36 éves idegenvezetőjét ölte meg egy elefánt. Daniel Kandela azután halt meg, hogy találkozott a csorda utolsó, csoportjától elszakadt elefánttal – írta a Daily Mail.
Szintén márciusban egy másik dühös elefánt támadt rá egy turistabuszra Afrikában. A szafari vezetője el tudta kergetni az elefántot, így a busz utasai épségben megmenekültek.

Lábtörést és zúzódásokat szenvedett egy orosz turista Indiában, miután megtámadta egy megvadult elefánt.
A február 13-án az ország északkeleti részén fekvő Dzsaipurban történt balesetről videófelvétel is készült. A felvételen látható, hogy az állat az ormányával a lábánál fogva megragadja, meglóbálja, majd végül a földhöz vágja a tehetetlen turistát. A hírek szerint a nő lábtörést és zúzódásokat szenvedett.
A hírek szerint a Gouri névre keresztelt elefántnak nem ez volt az első támadása, 2022-ben egy boltost támadott meg.
Az állatvédők javasolják, hogy az állatot szállítsák át egy menhelyre, a turisták pedig ne támogassák az állatkínzást azzal, hogy fizetnek az elefántlovaglásért.

Legkevesebb 160 elefánt pusztult el a Zimbabwét sújtó szárazság miatt, és mivel a forró, száraz időjárás folytatódik, a természetvédők attól tartanak, hogy még több állat hullik majd el.
Az elefántok tavaly augusztus és december között pusztultak el a 14 651 négyzetkilométeres Hwange nemzeti parkban, amely az elefántok, bölények, oroszlánok, gepárdok, zsiráfok és más veszélyeztetett fajok otthona.
A közelmúltban legalább hat másik elefántot találtak holtan a parkon kívül, vélhetően orvvadászat miatt.
A zimbabwei parkokért és vadon élő állatokért felelős hatóság (Zimparks) megerősítette a parkban elpusztult elefántok számát és a szárazságnak tulajdonította azt. Tinashe Farawo, a Zimparks szóvivője kedden elmondta: „Vizsgálatokat végeztünk, és az eredmények azt mutatják, hogy éhezés miatt haltak meg. Az elpusztult elefántok többsége idős vagy beteg volt.”
A Hwange parkban 2023-ban február és november között nem esett eső. A meteorológusok szerint október és idén március között erős El Niño időjárási jelenség várható, ami forró, száraz időjárást és kevés csapadékot eredményez.
Az ENSZ Humanitárius Ügyek Koordinációs Hivatala novemberi frissítésében azt írta, hogy ez valószínűleg késleltetett csapadékhullást és elhúzódó szárazságot fog eredményezni, és aszályhoz vezethet Zimbabwéban – írta a Guardian.
Hwange természetvédelmi csoportjai napenergiával működő rendszereket telepítenek a meglévő kutakra, hogy meghosszabbítsák a szivattyúzás idejét.
Az aszályok már korábban is okoztak tömeges elefántpusztulást Zimbabwéban: 2019-ben két hónap alatt több mint 200 állat pusztult el a vízhiány miatt.
A Hwange-ban dolgozó állatorvosok elmondták, hogy az elefántok a park egyik leggyakrabban használt vízvételi pontja körül csoportosan pusztultak el.
Egy szeptemberi számlálás során több mint 1800 elefánt próbált inni egyetlen vízforrásból.
Az aszályos körülmények súlyosbodásával az orvvadászat újbóli fellángolása is fenyegeti a zimbabwei elefántokat és más vadon élő állatokat.
Januárban hat elefánt halálát jegyezték fel Gwayiben, a Hwange parkon kívül, amit a környezetvédelmi jogvédő csoportok az orvvadászatnak tulajdonítanak. A csoportok szerint az elefántok agyarait eltávolították, ami elefántcsont orvvadászatra utal.

Egy 15 fős elefántcsorda okozott óriási pusztítást Délnyugat-Kínában, miután megszöktek egy természetvédelmi területről még áprilisban.

Az állatok csütörtökön érkeztek meg a több mint 6,5 millió lakosú Kunming város, Jünnan tartomány székhelyének határára.
A városban csaknem 700 rendőr és szakértő várta a csordát 10 tonnányi élelemmel, főleg kukoricával és ananásszal. A céljuk, hogy teherautókkal, drónokkal és az élelemmel olyan útra tereljék a csordát, amin keresztül biztonságosan elhagyhatják a várost. A lakosokat arra kérték, ne tegyenek ki élelmet az elefántoknak, ne bámészkodjanak, tartsanak távolságot, és ne zavarják őket petárdákkal vagy tűzijátékkal.
Egyelőre nem tudni, miért indultak el az elefántok, elképzelhető, hogy új lakhelyet keresnek, de az sem kizárt, hogy egy új, tapasztalatlan vezető került a csorda élére, és egyszerűen eltévedtek.
Az ázsiai elefánt fokozottan veszélyeztetett, Kínában vadon összesen csak kb. 300 egyede él a fajnak, legtöbbjük éppen Jünnan tartományban.

Feltehetően vadorzó volt az a férfi, akit elefántok tapostak agyon a dél-afrikai Krüger Nemzeti Parkban – közölte vasárnap a SANparks, a Krüger menedzsmentje. Az elefántagyar kereskedelmének nemzetközi tilalma ellenére minden évben állatok tízezreit gyilkolják le.
A férfi és két feltételezett bűntársa vadőrök elől menekült, amikor belefutottak egy több családból álló elefántcsordába. Az egyik orvvadászt sikerült letartóztatni, a harmadik társuk elmenekült.
A vadőrök szombaton rutinszerűen járőröztek a Phabeni területen, amikor nyomokat találtak, és a gyanúsítottak nyomába eredtek – állt a közleményben. – A három ember észrevettek a vadőröket, megpróbáltak elmenekülni, de a vadőrök légi erősítést kértek.
A menekülők eldobtak egy baltát és az ellátmányt tartalmazó táskát.
A légi úton érkező segítségnek köszönhetően az egyik orvvadászt elfogták, ő mondta el a vadőröknek, hogy elefántok közé rohantak, és nem biztos benne, hogy a társainak sikerült-e elmenekülniük.A vadőrök felfedezték a taposástól súlyosan megsérült vadorzót, aki az érkezésükkor már nem élt. A harmadikról annyit tudtak meg, hogy a szemén sebesült meg, de folytatta a menekülést. Előkerült a vadorzók puskája is. A vadőrök ezután hívták a rendőrséget és a mentőket. A harmadik gyanúsítottat még keresik.
Az elefántcsontnak hívott elefántagyar kereskedelmének nemzetközi tilalma ellenére minden évben állatok tízezreit gyilkolják le.
Mára Afrikában a Természetvédelmi Világszövetség (IUCN) adatai alapján mintegy 415 ezer elefánt maradt csak.
A Krüger Nemzeti Park Dél-Afrika egyik legnevesebb turistalátványossága, a kontinens legnagyobb rezervátumai közé tartozik. Hatalmas területén az elefántokon kívül oroszlánok, orrszarvúak, leopárdok és bölények is élnek.
