Landolás után szeparatista fegyveresek felgyújtottak kedden egy kisrepülőgépet az indonéziai Pápua tartományában, a pilótát elrabolták – derült ki a Szabad Pápua Mozgalom szakadár szervezet katonai szárnya, a Nyugat-Pápua Nemzeti Felszabadítási Hadsereg (TPNPB) által a sajtóhoz eljuttatott közleményből.



A lázadók kijelentették, nem engedik szabadon az új-zélandi állampolgárságú pilótát, ameddig az indonéziai kormány el nem ismeri Nyugat-Pápua függetlenségét.
A tartomány rendőrségének szóvivője, Ignatius Benny Adi Prabowo azt közölte, a Pilatus PC-6 típusú kisgépen lévő öt utas is eltűnt.



A vizsgálatot megkezdték, a kutatásban katonák is segítenek – tette hozzá.
Herman Taryaman a hadsereg Nyugat-Pápuán állomásozó egységei részéről azt mondta, egyelőre nem tudni, hogy a Philip Mertens néven azonosított pilótával együtt az utasokat is elrabolták-e.



Bár a TPNPB róluk nem tett említést, Muhammad Saleh Mustafa, a hadsereg regionális parancsnoka nem zárta ki, hogy őket is elhurcolták.

A kisgépet a Susi Air magánlégitársaság üzemelteti, melynek alapítója és tulajdonosa Indonézia korábbi halászati minisztere, Susi Pudjiastuti a Twitteren azt írta, imádkozik a pilóta és az utasok épségéért.
Pápua és Nyugat-Pápua indonéz tartományok az ásványkincsekben gazdag Új-Guinea sziget nyugati felén terülnek el. A terület korábban holland gyarmat volt, és 1969-ben került indonéz fennhatóság alá egy széles körben bírált ENSZ-referendum nyomán.



Az új-guineai őslakos pápuák közül sokan követelik az Indonézia által bekebelezett területek függetlenné válását, miként független a sziget keleti fele, az ausztrál gyarmati uralom alól 1975-ben felszabadult Pápua Új-Guinea.
Az erőszakcselekmények a térségben 2018 óta szaporodtak, a lázadók egyre súlyosabb, egyre több halálos áldozattal járó támadást hajtanak végre, az ehhez szükséges fegyvereket pedig a többi között a térségben lévő katonai támaszpontok ellen végrehajtott rajtaütéseken szerzik.
Az indonéz kormány tavaly terroristának minősítette a lázadókat.
