Jemenben továbbra is mintegy 8,4 millió belső menekült él, közülük sokakat már többször is elűztek otthonaikból – figyelmeztetett az ENSZ Menekültügyi Főbiztossága (UNHCR), hozzátéve, hogy egyre nagyobb kihívást jelent számukra biztonságos menedéket nyújtani.
Az UNHCR az X-en közzétett közleményében kiemelte, hogy sok rászoruló család számára immár elérhetetlenné váltak a biztonságos menedékhelyek, valamint azonnali támogatást sürgetett a belső menekültek ellátása érdekében.
A szervezet hozzátette azt is, hogy a harcok miatt menekülni kényszerülők mellett a 2024-ben pusztító árvizek nyomán 480 ezer ember vesztette el otthonát, és összesen mintegy 19,5 millió jemeninek van szüksége humanitárius segítségre, illetve minden második, öt év alatti gyermek súlyosan alultáplált.
A világszervezet adatai szerint Jemen lakosságának csaknem a felét, 17 millió embert fenyeget élelmiszerbizonytalanság.
Az arab országban 2014-ben tört ki polgárháború, a harcok pedig azóta is változó intenzitással zajlanak.

„Őrizetbe vettek Kabulban két, az UNHCR-ral megbízatásban álló újságírót és velük dolgozó afgán állampolgárokat. Másokkal együttműködve mindent megteszünk a helyzet megoldása érdekében. A helyzet természetére tekintettel nem kívánunk további információkat közölni” – szerepel a közleményben.
Two journalists on assignment with UNHCR and Afghan nationals working with them have been detained in Kabul. We are doing our utmost to resolve the situation, in coordination with others.

Az egyik újságíró – akit egyelőre tisztázatlan okokból vettek őrizetbe – Andrew North, brit állampolgár, korábban a BBC riportere volt. A lakóhelyüket elhagyni kényszerültek ügyével foglalkozott, amikor elfogták. A vele dolgozó két afgán állampolgár a sofőrje és a tolmácsa volt. A másik fogvatartott Peter Jouvenal, ő korábban újságíróként dolgozott, emellett sok éve a kabuli Gandamack Lodge vendégház tulajdonosa. Kettejük őrizetbe vétele között nincs összefüggés. A fogvatartásukról először Amrulleh Saleh, Afganisztán korábbi alelnöke posztolt a Twitteren. Azt írta, hogy a tálibok kilenc nyugati állampolgárt tartanak fogva, köztük az említett két személyt.
