Polgári védelmi mechanizmusán keresztül segíti Ausztriát az Európai Unió az ország északkeleti részében található Hirschwang régióban egy hete kitört erdőtűz leküzdésében – közölte szerdán az Európai Bizottság.
Ausztria október 29-én aktiválta az uniós polgári védelmi mechanizmust, amelyen keresztül az EU koordinálja a katasztrófákra és vészhelyzetekre adott válaszintézkedéseket. Az uniós vészhelyzeti koordinációs központ két, Olaszországban állomásozó tűzoltó repülőgépet mozgósított.
Az EU közös mentőflottájához tartozó repülőgépeket már bevetették a tűz sújtotta területeken. Mindemellett Németország és Szlovákia is ajánlott fel helikoptereket a tűzoltáshoz, alkalmazásuk folyamatban van.
A magyar határtól alig 70 kilométerre fekvő Rax hegység oldalában múlt hétfőn csaptak fel a lángok, amely gyors terjedése miatt ez Ausztria valaha volt egyik legnagyobb erdőtüze.
