Mintegy kétszáz bolíviai katonát ejtettek túszul Evo Morales volt elnök hívei, miután a húsz napja kezdődött kormányellenes tüntetések keretében megrohamoztak három laktanyát – közölte a bolíviai külügyminisztérium.
A tárca közleménye szerint irreguláris csoportok három laktanyát támadtak meg Chapare térségében, Cochabamba megyében, és több mint kétszáz katonát túszul ejtettek, fegyvereket és lőszert is elvittek.
A bolíviai kormány előzőleg katonákat küldött a térségbe, hogy segítsenek a rendőrségnek az Evo Morales hívei által eltorlaszolt utak megtisztításában.
Az exelnök ellen nemi erőszak vádjával folyik büntetőjogi vizsgálat. Morales tagadja a vádakat, hívei szerint pedig Luis Acre jelenlegi elnöknek, Morales egykori miniszterének és szövetségesének kormánya „igazságügyi és politikai üldözést” folytat a politikus ellen.

A kabinet azt követően döntött a feljelentésről, hogy a helyi közösségi médiában és a sajtóban olyan fényképek jelentek meg, amelyeken a 60 éves Morales egy fiatal lánnyal látható, aki most 19 éves. A korábbi elnököt nemi erőszakért és emberkereskedelemért vonnák felelősségre. Előbbiért 2-6, utóbbiért akár 10-15 évet is kaphat.
Evo Morales tavaly novemberben távozott a hatalomból, miután vitatott elnökválasztást követően hatalmas tüntetések kezdődtek, és a fegyveres erők is csatlakoztak a távozását követelő tömegekhez. Az államfő a lemondása után Mexikóba menekült az országból.
