Letartóztatták Bolívia korábbi elnökét, a konzervatív Jeanine Anezt, aki egy évig irányította az országot ideiglenes elnökként. A korábbi államfő, a szocialista Evo Morales 2019-ben történt elmozdítását puccsnak tartja a jelenlegi, baloldali kormány, és az abban résztvevők ellen eljárást kezdtek.
Jeanine Anez szerint nem államcsíny zajlott 2019-ben, hanem „alkotmányos jogutódlás”, és kéri az EU-t, illetve az Amerikai Államok Szövetségét, hogy küldjön megfigyelőket a mostani eljárások ellenőrzésére.
Evo Morales azt írta a Twitteren, hogy igazságot kell szolgáltatni a 2019-es puccs 36 halálos áldozatának, nyolcszáz sebesültjének és az 1500 illegálisan fogva tartott embernek. Az élet, a demokrácia és a gazdaság elleni támadásért a tetteseknek felelniük kell Morales szerint.
Az amerikai külügyminisztérium az emberi jogok és a törvények betartását kérte, ugyancsak a Twitteren.
A letartóztatott korábbi elnök bírálói és támogatói egyaránt tüntettek Jeanine Anez szülővárosában, a La Paz-i ügyészség előtt.
Önkényesnek nevezte a jelenlegi eljárást Rafael Quispe, aki az őslakosok vezetőjeként volt tagja Anez kabinetjének. Szerinte a parlamentnek kell kezdeményeznie ügyészségi vizsgálatot a volt elnök ellen.
Egy tüntető hangsúlyozza, hogy sok ember haláláért kell felelnie az előző elnöknek. A maximális büntetés lenne megfelelő Jeanine Anez számára, teszi hozzá.
Anez mellett több korábbi politikai tisztségviselőt tartóztattak le a 2019-es, véres események miatt, és további őrizetbe vételekre lehet számítani. Ez fokozza a feszültséget a politikailag megosztott Bolíviában.
