Két rendőr könnyebben megsebesült Brazíliában, mert gránátot dobott rájuk egy korábbi parlamenti képviselő, akit le akartak tartóztatni – tudatta a helyi rendőrség helyi idő szerint vasárnap este.
A rendőröket kórházba vitték, ahonnan nem sokkal később kiengedték őket. Az expolitikus, Roberto Jefferson nem sokkal később megadta magát.
Jefferson Jair Bolsonaro brazil elnök támogatója, az elnök azonban a támadás után elhatárolódott tőle; a közösségi médiában azt írta, hogy aki rendőrökre támad, azt úgy kell kezelni, mint egy bűnözőt.
Jefferson előbb közzétett egy videót, melyen az látható, hogy szövetségi rendőrök érkeznek a volt képviselő házához, egy későbbi videóban pedig arról beszél, hogy a rendőrautót vette célba a gránáttal, nem a rendőröket.
Jefferson már így is házi őrizetben volt, mert eljárás folyt ellene álhírek terjesztése miatt. Mindeközben pénteken közzétett egy videót, amelyen Carmen Lucia bírót bírálta az elnökválasztási kampánnyal kapcsolatos egyik döntése miatt. Ezzel azonban Alexander de Moraes főbíró szerint megsértette a házi őrizet feltételeit, és ezért elrendelte a letartóztatását.
Brazíliában vasárnap tartják az elnökválasztás második fordulóját, melyben a hivatalban lévő elnök Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva korábbi államfővel mérkőzik meg. Az elnök baloldali kihívója az eset után azzal vádolta meg Bolsonarót, hogy teret adott a politikai erőszaknak.
