Rejtélyes kátránygolyók miatt lezártak két strandot Sydney-ben – tájékoztat a Guardian.
Az ismeretlen eredetű, fekete, golyó alakú törmeléket vízimentők fedezték fel a parton. A Coogee strandot kedden, a Gordons Bay strandot pedig szerdán zárták le.
„Az előzetes vizsgálati eredmények azt mutatják, hogy az anyag szénhidrogén-alapú szennyezőanyag, amely a kátrányban is megtalálható” – közölte Randwick városrész tanácsa.
Kátránygolyók akkor keletkeznek, amikor olaj törmelékkel és vízzel érintkezik, általában olajszennyezés vagy olajszivárgás következtében.
A rejtélyes golyók megtalálása után találtak egy olajfoltot a vízen. A hatóságok közlése szerint a strandok és a víz megtisztítása folyamatban van.
