Heinz-Christian Strachét, Ausztria korábbi alkancellárját korrupcióban találták bűnösnek, amiért törvénymódosítást ajánlott fel, hogy ezzel állami finanszírozáshoz segítse egyik adományozójának, egy barátjának a magánkórházát.
Az ORF közszolgálati műsorszolgáltató augusztus 27-én arról számolt be, hogy a szélsőjobboldali Szabadságpárt (FPOe) volt vezetője 15 hónapos felfüggesztett börtönbüntetést kapott két nagy összegű, összesen 12 000 euró kenőpénz elfogadása miatt.
Strache és a másik vádlott, Walter Grubmüller tagadta az ellene felhozott vádakat.
Az eset az úgynevezett Ibiza-gate-botrányból fejlődött ki, amelyet egy 2017-es, a spanyol üdülőszigeten tartott találkozóról neveztek el. Ezen Strache és egy orosz oligarcha unokahúgaként bemutatkozó nő vett részt.
Videóra vették, ahogy Strache állami szerződéseket ígér a nőnek, ha cserében segít pártjának a 2017-es választásokon. Megvitatták annak a lehetőségét is, hogy a nő megvásárolja Ausztria legolvasottabb bulvárlapját, a Kronen Zeitungot, hogy annak tartalma közelebb álljon az FPOe-hez.
Az alkancellár nem tudta, hogy a találkozó fedett művelet volt, és filmre vették. Később azt mondta, hogy részeg volt, és valószínűleg kábítószert is fogyasztott.
Amikor a videó 2019 májusában felbukkant a német médiában, az FPOe és Sebastian Kurz kancellár konzervatív Néppártja (OeVP) koalíciós kormányának összeomlásához vezetett. Az FPOe azóta elveszítette politikai tőkéjét.
A videó nyomán vizsgálódni kezdtek a korrupcióellenes ügyészek, akik lefoglalták Strache és több más politikus mobiltelefonját, ezzel megnyitották az utat több, jogsértés gyanújával indított nyomozás előtt.
Kurz kezdetben sértetlenül került ki a botrányból, és visszatért az OeVP Zöldek-koalíció élére.
Májusban azonban az ügyészek bejelentették, hogy nyomoznak ellene, a gyanú szerint ugyanis hamis tanúvallomást tett az Ibiza-ügyet és más korrupciós ügyeket vizsgáló parlamenti bizottság előtt. Kurz tagadja, hogy bármiféle jogsértést követett volna el.

Egyévi felfüggesztett szabadságvesztésre ítélte egy moszkvai bíróság pénteken Oleg Navalnijt, Alekszej Navalnij ellenzéki politikus öccsét, amiért a járványügyi korlátozásokat megszegve részt vett az elítélt bátyja szabadon bocsátását követelő tüntetések szervezésében.
Ugyanilyen vád alapján nemrég a Navalnij alapította Korrupcióellenes Küzdelem Alapítványa két munkatársát is elítélték, egyikük egy, másikuk mozgását pedig másfél évig korlátozták. Ez azt jelenti, hogy éjszakára nem hagyhatják el a lakhelyüket és Moszkvából sem mehetnek el.
Egyikük, Ljubov Szobol ügyvédnő jelöltként akart indulni a szeptemberi parlamenti választáson, ám kampányát fel kellett függesztenie, miután a Navalnij-alapítványt a bíróság szélsőségesnek minősítette és betiltotta. Az ilyen szervezetek tagjai pedig nem indulhatnak a választásokon.
Alekszej Navalnij jelenleg két és fél éves szabadságvesztését tölti.
