A lány bíróság elé áll.
Egy 14 éves lány Floridában szerdán tudta meg, hogy felnőttként kezelik majd a bíróságon azután, hogy májusban megölte nagyanyját.
Az ukrán származású Sofia Kovalt azzal vádolják, hogy a 80 éves Jevheniia Kovalt az idős nő járókerekével és övével súlyosan megverte. A CrimeOnline szerint a tinédzser elmondta apjának, hogy Yevheniia megkarmolta őt, ami miatt önvédelemből többször megütötte az áldozatot az övvel.
A jelentések szerint Sophia apja tinédzser lányát a nagymamával hagyta, amíg az apa meglátogatta egy barátját. Az idős nőt szörnyű sérülésekkel, zúzódásokkal találta meg aznap este, amikor visszaért. Yevheniia 15 horzsolást szenvedett a nyakán és az arcán, zúzódásokat a kezén, karján és lábán, vérzett a nyaka és a karjai, de zúzódott és vérzett a fejbőre is, valamint agyvérzést szenvedett. Halálának okaként az emberölést adták meg.
A tinédzser apja állítólag azt is elmondta a rendőrségnek, hogy nem sokkal az eset előtt elvette lánya mobiltelefonját. A CBS News jelentése szerint csütörtökön helyi idő szerint 21:06-kor riasztották a Lake City-i rendőrség tisztjeit az NW Long Streetre, miután bejelentést kaptak arról, hogy lövöldözés történt egy lakóházban.
A gyermek a lakóház kanapéján vesztette életét.
A helyszínre kiérkező rendőrök egy kislányt találtak a házban, lőtt sebekkel, s bár a rendőrök azonnal megkezdték az elsősegélynyújtást, amit a kiérkező mentősök folytattak, a gyermek belehalt sérüléseibe.
A hatóságok közlése szerint a 12 éves kislányt a kanapén találták meg, s bár mindent megtettek érte, már nem tudtak rajta segíteni.
A Lake City-i Rendőrkapitányság Bűnügyi Nyomozó Osztályának nyomozói és a Floridai Rendészeti Minisztérium ügynökei az Államügyészi Hivatal nyomozói mellett beszéltek az áldozat családjával és a lehetséges szemtanúkkal.
A szörnyű tragédia körülményei ugyanakkor még mindig nem világosak, így nem tudni, ki lőhette le a gyermeket, s mi volt az indítéka. A nyomozás folyamatban van.

A floridai Gabrielle Petito halála az egész világot lázban tartja, a rejtélyes körülmények között eltűnt lányról sokáig azt hitték, párjával, Brian Laundrie-val menekülhetett el önakaratából, végül azonban kiderült, valaki szándékosan gyilkolta meg.
A Teton megyei halottkém, dr. Brent Blue a lefolytatott boncolást követően megállapította, hogy Petitót egyértelműen fojtogatva ölték meg, az erre utaló nyomok alapján ugyanis kizárható, hogy esetleg öngyilkosságot követett el.
Szeptember 21. óta tudni lehet, hogy gyilkosságról van szó, ám egyesek kételkedtek a körülményekben és a fiatal lány halálának mikéntjében, ezért volt szükséges igazságügyi szempontból a hivatalos patológiai vizsgálat – írta a The New York Times.
Toxikológiai ellenőrzéseket is elvégeztek Petito holttestén, azonban az eredményekre még várni kell, így csak később tudhatjuk meg, hogy a fojtogatást megelőzően ivott-e alkoholt vagy használt-e kábítószert, illetve más tudatmódosító készítményt.
Mindeközben társa és barátja, a 23 éves Brian Laundrie-t továbbra sem találják a rendőrök, hiába kutatták már át a teljes erdőséget és völgyet, ahol partnere holttestére rábukkantak. Az sem motiválta a férfit, hogy leblokkolták a hitelkártyáját, így csak találgathatunk annak kapcsán, valójában mi történhetett azon az ominózus éjszakán.
