Az Egyesült Királyságban működő orosz nagykövetség pénteken azt írta ki Twitter-oldalára, hogy az „azovi militánsok kivégzést érdemelnek, de nem kivégzőosztag, hanem kötél általi halált, mert nem igazi katonák, ezért megalázó halálnem jár nekik.”
Kijev szombaton elítélte a nyilatkozatot. Oleg Nyikolenko ukrán külügyi szóvivő hangsúlyozta: nincs különbség aközött, hogy orosz diplomaták ukrán hadifoglyok kivégzésére szólítanak fel, vagy hogy orosz csapatok teszik meg ezt Olenivkában.
