Több éven keresztül rabszolgákként dolgoztatott hajléktalanokat egy cseh embercsempész pár. A férfiakat otthonról, Csehországból szállították az Egyesült Királyságba, ahol egy McDonald’s étteremben kellett dolgozniuk, és bérüknek csak a töredékét kapták meg.
Egy cseh pár, Ernest Drevenak és Veronika Bubencikova több embert, köztük hajléktalanokat és különböző függőségben szenvedőket csábítottak az Egyesült Királyságba, ahol modern rabszolgaságra kényszerítették őket. A férfiakat 2015-ben toborozták Csehországban, azzal az ígérettel, hogy jobb életet, munkát és szállást biztosítanak nekik az Egyesült Királyságban. Amikor azonban megérkeztek Cambridgeshire-be, a pár lakásában, zsúfolt körülmények között kellett élniük, miközben egy McDonald’s étteremben dolgoztatták őket.
Drevenak és Bubencikova segített a férfiaknak munkát szerezni a gyorsétteremben, ahol tolmácsként is működtek az interjúk során, mivel áldozataik nem beszéltek angolul. Bár az étteremben heti 12-16 órát dolgoztak, fizetésük nagy része a pár bankszámlájára került, miközben az országba csempészett férfiak mindössze 40-120 fontot rakhattak zsebre kéthetente.
Az áldozatokat nemcsak a McDonald’sban dolgoztatták, hanem a pár ház körüli munkákra is kényszerítette őket, például takarításra, kertészkedésre és dekorálásra. Drevenak és Bubencikova négy év alatt körülbelül 200 ezer fontot zsebelt be az áldozatok fizetéséből – írja az Independent.
Évekig tartott a McDonald’s-rabszolgaság
A rendőrség 2019 októberében értesült a visszaélésekről, és egy vizsgálat után letartóztatta a párt. A modern rabszolgaság elleni csoport szakértői kihallgatták az áldozatokat, akik közül négyen azonnal, míg ketten később, a rendőrséggel együttműködve távoztak. A párt modern rabszolgatartással és csalással vádolták meg, és 2023 októberében bűnösnek találták őket.
Drevenak 12 és fél évet, Bubencikova pedig 10 és fél évet kapott börtönbüntetésként.
A McDonald’s együttműködött a hatóságokkal, és lépéseket tett annak érdekében, hogy a jövőben megakadályozzák az ilyen eseteket. Az étteremlánc elismerte az áldozatok bátorságát a jogi eljárások során, és együttműködést kezdett az Unseen nevű szervezettel, amely a modern rabszolgaság megelőzésére és kezelésére szakosodott.
Egy darab „cukorkában” nagyjából 300-szor akkora metamfetaminmennyiséget találtak, mint amit egy átlagos drogfogyasztó használna.
Egy aucklandi, hajléktalanokat segítő jótékonysági szervezet véletlenül olyan cukorkákat osztott szét, amik nem édességek voltak, hanem cukorkás csomagolásba csavart metamfetamin-tömbök – vette észre a Telex a The Guardian cikkét.

Egy darabban nagyjából 300-szor akkora metamfetaminmennyiséget találtak, mint amit egy átlagos drogfogyasztó használna. A tesztek során az is kiderült, hogy a mennyiség akár halálos is lehet.
Mivel a cukorkának álcázott tömbök utcai ára akár 1000 új-zélandi dollár (217 ezer forint) is lehet, a szakértők szerint nem direkt adományozták a segélyszervezetnek, és nem tartják valószínűnek, hogy egy hajléktalanokat célzó támadásról lenne szó. Ettől függetlenül a rendőrség nyomozást indított az ügyben.
A jótékonysági szervezetnek egy magánszemély jelezte, hogy valami nincs rendben, miután az élelmiszerbankból kapott cukorkának fura íze volt. A szervezetnél megkóstolták az egyik, még megmaradt cukorkát, és azonnal értesítették a hatóságokat.
Nyolc család jelentette eddig, hogy kaptak a drogos cukorkákból, és legalább egy gyerek meg is kóstolta az egyiket. Eddig senkit, aki kipróbálta, nem kellett kórházba szállítani, mert elvileg olyan borzalmas az íze, hogy mindenki azonnal kiköpte.
Három ember, köztük a gyanúsított meghalt hétfőn a kanadai Brit Kolumbia tartományban elkövetett lövöldözésekben – közölte a kanadai rendőrség.
A feltételezett elkövetővel a rendőrök végeztek. Ghalib Bhayani, a regionális rendőrség vezetője szerint aktív nyomozást folytatnak a Vancouver elővárosában történt lövöldözések ügyében, amelyeknek két halálos áldozatuk, illetve egy kritikus állapotban lévő és egy komoly sebeket kapott sérültjük is volt.
„Jelen pillanatban még nem tudjuk a halálos incidens indokát, illetve azt sem, hogy volt-e valamilyen kapcsolat az gyanúsított és az áldozatai között” – mondta Bhayani.
Kanadában jóval ritkábbnak számítanak a lövöldözések déli szomszédjához, az Egyesült Államokhoz képest, részben a szigorúbb fegyvertartási törvényei miatt. Kanadában a helyi statisztikai hivatal szerint a lőfegyverrel elkövetett gyilkosságok száma alig ötöde az Egyesült Államokban mértnek, ugyanakkor magasabb a tehetős államok átlagánál és növekvő tendenciát mutat.
Kanada történetének egyik legvéresebb ámokfutása 2020-ban történt. Akkor az 51 éves Gabriel Wortman 22 embert gyilkolt meg körülbelül ötven kilométeres körzetben több helyszínen a délkelet-kanadai Új-Skócia tartományban.

A helyi rendőrség közleménye szerint Seth Fleetwood polgármestert a biztonsági személyzet kísérte ki az épület hátsó ajtaján az autójához. Sajtóértesülések szerint a tüntetők csupán a városháza előcsarnokába jutottak be, ahol kárt nem okoztak, és sérülteket sem jelentettek a hatóságok. Helyszíni felvételeken azonban látható, hogy a tömeg letépi az épület előtt felhúzott amerikai zászlót, majd addig tapossák, amíg egy férfi el nem húzza azt. Bellingham mintegy 140 kilométerre északra fekszik Seattle városától, ahol Joe Biden demokrata elnök beiktatásának a napján is zavargások törtek ki.

A Bellingham Metro News nevű helyi hírportál azt írta, hogy a múlt évben jelentősen megnőttek a mindennapi élet költségei a városban, ezzel párhuzamosan az utcára kerülők száma is folyamatosan emelkedett. Felmérések szerint minden negyedik családnak pénzügyi nehézségei vannak, ők többnyire az alapvető szükségleteiket sem tudják finanszírozni.
– A táborral kapcsolatban békés megoldást kell találnunk – jelentette ki a polgármester, akinek egyébként az volt a terve, hogy január végéig megszünteti a városháza előtt letelepedő hajléktalanok táborát.
Seth Fleetwood felhívta arra is a figyelmet, hogy az utcán élőket igyekeznek különböző szolgáltatásokkal és ellátással támogatni, konkrétumokat azonban nem említett. A KIRO értesülései szerint a tüntetők az újságírókat is zaklatták, állítólag volt olyan, akinek ellopták a mikrofonját, másnak pedig az iPad-készülékét akarták eltulajdonítani arra hivatkozva, hogy engedély nélkül készítenek fényképeket róluk.
„A városháza előtti körülmények tarthatatlanok, amelyeket a tüntetők és azok támogatói is fokoznak, akik egyébként nem is a táborban élnek” – írta közleményében a polgármester.

A tettesek belopakodtak a hajléktalanok laktanyájába, ahol kiválasztották áldozataikat, rendőrnek adták ki magukat, majd pedig paprika spray-t fújtak a hajléktalanok arcába és kegyetlenül megverték őket. Mindezt telefonjaik kamerájával rögzítették is, később pedig a felvételeket feltöltötték Telegram-csatornájukra.
Mint kiderült, a tettesek 29 és 47 év közötti férfiak. Lakhelyeiken házkutatást végeztek, melynek során számos tárgyi bizonyítékra bukkantak. Az ügyben folytatódik az eljárás, a vizsgálatok megkezdődtek. A tettesekre akár 10 év szabadságvesztés is várhat.

A Daily Mail, a New York Post és a V4NA nemzetközi hírügynökség szerint New Yorkban, azon belül is az elitnegyedeknek számító, manhattani Upper West Side-on és az Upper East Side-on egyre rosszabb a helyzet, mivel a város radikális baloldali polgármestere, Bill de Blasio hajléktalanokat telepített a helyi luxusszállodákba.
Ennek eredményeképpen elszabadult az utcai bűnözés valamennyi formája, a fosztogatásoktól a drogkereskedelmen és a prostitúción át a szexuális jellegű bűncselekményekig, ráadásul minden megtelt szeméttel. A tarthatatlanná váló helyzet miatt tömegesen költöznek el a tehetősek, akik nemcsak a negyedet és a várost, de magát New York államot is elhagyják. A Chicago Tribune szerint a kivándorlás a szintén baloldali vezetésű Chicagóban is megfigyelhető, ahol sajátos módon keveredik a radikális baloldali erőszakhullám a már nagyjából egy évszázada jelenlévő, főleg a kábítószer-kereskedelemhez kapcsolódó, hagyományos bűnözési formákkal, illetve a „szokásos” bolti fosztogatásokkal.
Az elmúlt hetekben egyre kaotikusabbá vált a helyzet New Yorkban, azon belül is a legelitebbnek számító manhattani negyedekben, mert a Demokrata Párt radikális baloldali szárnyához tartozó polgármester, a Clinton család jó barátja, Bill de Blasio úgy döntött, hogy a járvány miatt üresen álló luxusszállodákba a város minden részéről hajléktalanokat telepít.
Ennek az lett az eredménye, hogy a környéken megnőtt a bűnözés, főleg a zsebtolvajlás, a bolti lopás, a drogkereskedelem, illetve a prostitúció.
Ráadásul sok hajléktalan inkább csak az éjszakát tölti a luxushotelben, nappal az utcán van, emiatt egyre több szemetet és emberi ürüléket látni a manhattani elitnegyedben.
A kedd esti Bejrútban történt robbanás több milliárd dolláros károkat okozott, s a környék lakóinak közel fele otthon nélkül maradt.

Bejrútban kedd este égett, majd felrobbant egy ammónium-nitrát-raktár, amelynek következtében 4000 ember megsebesült és több mint 100 ember meghalt.
A robbanás természetesen nemcsak azokat az embereket érinti, akik megsérültek a balesetben, hanem az egész várost.
A Le Figaro azt írja, hogy 300 ezer embernek kell elhagynia az otthonát, ami azt jelenti, hogy szinte a teljes, 360 ezer fős belvárosi lakosság az utcára kerül. (Bejrút teljes lakossága agglomerációval együtt 2,4 millió fő).

Ennek egyik oka, hogy Bejrút területe kevesebb mint 20 négyzetkilométer, ezen a területen élnek 360 ezren (így tehát a népsűrűsége hatszor akkora, mint Budapesté). A hatóságok azon vannak, hogy élelemmel, ivóvízzel és hajlékkal lássák el őket. A tűzoltóság tíz emberét veszítette el.
