Legkevesebb 58 ember meghalt egy hajóbalesetben a Közép-Afrikai Köztársaságban – közölték szombaton helyi hatóságok.
A hajó a fővárostól, Bangui-tól nem messze, a Mpoko-folyón, mintegy 300 emberrel a fedélzetén darabokra esett és elsüllyedt, nem sokkal indulás után.
A Radio Guira nevű helyi rádióállomás a polgári védelemre hivatkozva azt közölte, hogy a halottak között sok a nő és a gyerek. Az emberek többsége egy temetésre tartott, az eltűntek utáni keresés jelenleg is zajlik.
Az országban a szárazföldi utak rossz állapota miatt a folyók fontos szállítási és közlekedési útvonalak, ám a legtöbb, gyakran fából készült hajót régóta nem tartják karban.
