Két, napok óta eltűntként keresett hegymászó holttestét találták meg a washingtoni Mount Rainier Nemzeti Park területén, a Wilson‑gleccser közelében, mintegy 9600 láb (kb. 2900 méter) magasságban – közölte a Nemzeti Park Szolgálat.



A tragikus felfedezésre január 20‑án, kedden került sor, miután a parkőrök január 18‑án vizsgálatot indítottak, mert a hegymászók lejárt engedélyei alapján feltételezték, hogy baj történhetett. A park közleménye szerint a ranger‑szolgálat „vizsgálatot indított”, miután kiderült, hogy a mászók engedélye lejárt, és szombat óta nem adtak életjelet magukról. A vészhelyzeti kapcsolattartók is megerősítették, hogy január 17. óta nem tudtak velük kommunikálni.



A keresést vasárnap indították, ám a hétfői időjárási körülmények – köztük a sűrű köd és a rossz látási viszonyok – megakadályozták a légi egységek bevetését, így a mentés csak kedden folytatódhatott. A park korábban figyelmeztetést tett közzé a közösségi médiában a téli túrázás veszélyeiről, kiemelve a „whiteoutokat, lavinákat vagy sérüléseket”, és arra kérte a hátizsákos túrázókat, hogy vigyenek magukkal megfelelő felszerelést, vészhelyzeti eszközöket és navigációs berendezést.



A földi mentőcsapatok kedden érték el a helyszínt, ahol két elhunyt személyt találtak. „A keresőcsapatok távcsöves felszereléssel két, mozgásképtelen személyt észleltek a Wilson‑gleccser közelében.” A Pierce megyei orvosszakértői hivatal az egyik áldozatot Jiri Richterként, egy 51 éves hegymászóként azonosította. A halottkémi jelentés szerint Richter halálát többszörös tompa erőbehatás okozta, és a halál módja baleset volt – írja a People.



A második áldozatot a KING 5 News beszámolója alapján Ben Watsonként, 35 éves hegymászóként azonosították, akit a hivatalos nyilvántartás Benjamin Ingersol Watson néven tartott számon. A halottkémi jelentés szerint Watson halálát „fejre mért tompa erőbehatás” okozta, és az esetet szintén balesetként sorolták be.

A francia Alpokban hárman, az olasz Alpokban ketten vesztették életüket hegyi balesetekben a hétvégén.
A franciaországi Grenoble térségében két 30 év körüli férfi zuhant le hegymászás közben a négyezer méter magas Dome de Neige des Écrins hegycsúcs közelében, holttestüket egy túrázó találta meg szombat reggel egy kis völgyben. E helytől kissé nyugatabbra egy ugyancsak harmincas éveiben járó férfit, egy bázisugrót találtak holtan, a sportoló egy sziklának csapódott.



A határ túloldalán, az olaszországi Piemonte tartományban két francia hegymászó halt meg, holttestüket egy vízmosás mélyén találták meg. A férfiak a 3841 méteres Monviso-csúcsra, a Cotti-Alpok legmagasabb hegyére vezető Berhault-gerinc megmászására indultak vasárnap.



A hozzátartozók késő délután jelentették eltűnésüket, de a rossz idő miatt a mentők csak este tudtak a keresésükre indulni. A Kőkirályként is emlegetett, a környező csúcsoknál legalább 500 méterrel magasabb és ezért messziről is jól látható Monviso a legdélibb az Alpok 3500 méternél magasabb hegycsúcsai közül – írta az MTI.
