Az otthonában végeztek Jurij Kerpatenko karmesterrel, a herszoni filharmonikusok vezetőjével.
Jurij Kerpatenko visszautasította, hogy koncertet adjon az orosz megszállók parancsára Herszonban, mire válaszul az orosz katonák megölték őt – közölte az ukrán kulturális minisztérium. Kerpatenko a helyi filharmónia vezető karmestere, továbbá a Herszoni Zenés és Dráma Színház zenei igazgatója volt.
A karmester azt követően sem hagyta el Herszon városát, hogy azt megszállták az oroszok, de továbbra is rendszeresen hangot adott az inváziót kritizáló véleményének a közösségi médiában. Jurij Kerpatenko családja szerint a férfit gépfegyverrel ölték meg a katonák. A lakásában, az ajtón keresztül érte őt halálos találat.
A Guardian azt írja, hogy október elsejére terveztek egy koncertet Herszonban a megszálló erők annak jeleként, a fennhatóságuk alatt is garantált a hétköznapi élet békéje. A karmesternek a kamarazenekarával kellett volna fellépnie, de kategorikusan kijelentette, hogy nem hajlandó az agresszorral együttműködni.
