Olaszország elnöke elítélte a növekvő antiszemitizmust, és erőteljes beszédben állt ki a zsidó nép mellett a holokauszt áldozatainak emléknapja alkalmából tartott római megemlékezésen. Az emléknapot beárnyékolja a Hamász október 7-i pogromját követő gázai háború, valamint az antiszemita incidensek számának növekedése Európa-szerte.
A Giorgia Meloni miniszterelnök és az olaszországi zsidó közösség vezetőinek részvételével tartott ünnepségen Sergio Mattarella elnök a holokausztot „a legszörnyűbb bűntettnek” nevezte, és felidézte az olaszok bűnrészességét a zsidók deportálásában a fasizmus idején.
Mint mondta, a Hamász október 7-i, Izrael elleni támadásai „a soá borzalmainak rettenetes mása”. Ugyanakkor fájdalmát fejezte ki az izraeli hadjárat következtében Gázában egyre növekvő palesztin halálos áldozatok miatt, és felszólított arra, hogy az alapvető emberi jogokat mindenhol tartsák tiszteletben.
Közben Róma rendőrfőnöke utasította a palesztinpárti aktivistákat, hogy halasszák el a fővárosban szombatra, a holokauszt emléknapjára tervezett tüntetést. Az izraeli zsidó közösség ugyanis emlékeztetett arra, hogy az ilyen tüntetések alkalmat adnak arra, hogy a holokauszt emlékét az Izrael-ellenes erők magukévá tegyék és a zsidók ellen használják fel (ilyen pl. a „népirtás” vádja Izraellel szemben).
A palesztin szervezők azonban közölték, hogy ennek ellenére megtartják tiltakozásukat, mondván, a rendőrséggel való esetleges konfliktus „kis ár a gázai palesztin halálos áldozatok számát tekintve.”
Több európai országhoz hasonlóan Olaszországban is rekord magasságot ért el az antiszemita incidensek száma: az október 7-i támadást követően 2023 utolsó három hónapjában 216 incidenst jelentettek, szemben az előző év egészének 241 esetével. Összességében tavaly 454 antiszemita incidenst jelentettek, ami minden idők legnagyobb növekedése.
A holokauszt emléke Izrael ellen fordításának ékes példája például, hogy pénteken közel 50 kis bronzplakett jelent meg a járdán az ENSZ római menekültügyi ügynökségének irodái előtt, a Gázában megölt palesztinok nevével. Ezek a holokausztra való emlékezés egyik leghatásosabb szimbólumának, a botlatóköveknek a mintájára készültek el.

A publicistát 2020. június 25-én a párizsi fellebbviteli bíróság 5 ezer eurós pénzbüntetésre ítélte, amelynek be nem fizetése esetén az elítélt börtönbe zárható. Október 19-i ítéletében a semmítőszék megerősítette a fellebbviteli bíróság döntését – tudatta szerdán az AFP francia hírügynökség.
Az ügy 2016-ra nyúlik vissza, amikor Alain Soral Égalité et Réconciliation (Egyenlőség és megbékélés) című internetes oldalán egy holokauszttagadó karikatúrát tett közzé, amelyért jogerősen 10 ezer euró pénzbírságra ítélték. 2017-ben a honlap leközölte Damien Viguier ügyvéd tárgyaláson elmondott beszédét, amelyben a jogász Robert Faurisson holokauszttagadótól idézett.
A beszéd közzététele miatt a párizsi büntetőbíróság 2019 áprilisában egy év szabadságvesztést szabott ki Alain Soralra, és 5 ezer eurós pénzbüntetést az ügyvédjére. Az ügyészség a sajtószabadságra hivatkozva fellebbezett a döntés ellen. A fellebbviteli bíróság az ügyvédet felmentette, a publicista büntetését pedig enyhítette. A négy felperes civil szervezet ekkor a semmítőszékhez fordult jogorvoslatért.
Alain Soralt már csaknem húszszor ítélték el, elsősorban rágalmazásért, gyűlöletkeltésért és antiszemitizmusért. Legutóbb májusban kapott négy hónapi börtönbüntetést vallási gyűlöletkeltés miatt, miután azt állította, hogy a párizsi Notre-Dame székesegyház 2019-es tűzvésze mögött a zsidók állnak.
Alain Soral, a francia marxista mozgalomhoz tartozó író, aki az 1990-es években hagyta ott a Francia Kommunista Pártot (PCF), amely szerinte felhagyott forradalmi elveivel, 2006-ban pedig belépett a Jean-Marie Le Pen vezette Nemzeti Frontba, amelynek 2007-ig a központi bizottsági tagja és egyben egyik legfőbb ideológusa is volt.

Az Emberi Jogok Európai Bírósága csütörtökön elutasította az Auschwitz könyvelőjeként is ismert Oscar Gröning panaszát, aki előzetesen azért fordult a strasbourgi testülethez, mert az ellene lefolytatott, 1977-től 1985-ig tartó németországi büntetőeljárás túl hosszúnak bizonyult.
Oskar Gröninget, az egykori auschwitz-birkenaui náci haláltábor őrét, jogerősen 2015-ban ítélte négy év szabadságvesztésre a német bíróság magyar zsidók százezreinek legyilkolásában való bűnrészességért. Az ítéletet 2016-ban megerősítette a német szövetségi legfelső bíróság (BGH), amely szerint az elítéltnek számos módon volt szerepe a tömeggyilkosságokban.
Gröning 2018-ban 96 évesen hunyt el, anélkül, hogy egy napot is letöltött volna kiszabott büntetéséből. Az ügyében 1977-ben megkezdett első vizsgálat 1985-ben zárult le végül, amikor is bizonyítékok hiányában nem emeltek vádat ellene.
A férfi 2017-ben azzal a panasszal fordult az EJEB-hez, hogy állítása szerint, a büntetőjogi eljárás ellene 1978 óta folyamatos volt, mivel a hatóságok elmulasztották őt értesíteni a vizsgálat 1985-ös lezárásáról.
Az egykori SS tiszt azzal érvelt, hogy a német hatóságok megsértették a tisztességes tárgyalásokhoz való jogát. A strasbourgi testület bírái azonban úgy határoztak csütörtökön, hogy a panaszt elutasítják.

Az ítélet szerint, a bírák több bizonyítékkal is alá tudták támasztani, hogy Gröning az első eljárás lezárása után „nem maradt bizonytalanságban jogi helyzetét illetően”, mert már 1985-ben is tudatában volt, hogy nem kell tovább tartania a büntetőjogi felelősségrevonástól.
Oskar Gröning 1944-ben, az úgynevezett magyar akció idején, a haláltáborba szállított és gázkamrába küldött emberek hátrahagyott csomagjait kezelte, előkészítve a terepet a deportáltak következő csoportjának, és bevételezte, majd az SS berlini központjába küldte a csomagokban talált pénzt.
A náci párt fegyveres szervezete, az SS önkéntesen csatlakozó tagjaként legkevesebb három napon a haláltábor vasútállomásának peronján – a „rámpán” – teljesített szolgálatot, legfőbb feladata az Auschwitzba deportált emberek csomagjainak őrzése volt
Ez a tevékenység azt szolgálta, hogy ne az áldozatok szeme előtt kutassák át a holmijaikat, mert az megtörhette volna gyanútlanságukat és lázongáshoz vezethetett volna. Jelenléte a rámpán a fenyegetettség érzésének fenntartásához is hozzájárult.
Auschwitzi lágerőrként állandó feladatai közé tartozott a deportáltak felügyelete, valamint az ellenállás és a menekülési kísérletek fegyveres erővel történő megakadályozása. Gröning 2015-ös elítélésekor „erkölcsileg bűnrészesnek” vallotta magát, és bocsánatot kért egykori tetteiért.
Neve azért is lehet ismerős idehaza, mert ő volt az egyik náci háborús bűnös, akinek az erdélyi magyar holokauszt-túlélő, Eva Mozes Kor – óriási megbotránkozást okozva – látványosan megbocsátott: 2015-ben a német bíróságon odament Gröninghez és átölelte.
A Mengele-féle rettenetes „ikerkísérleteket” is túlélő Eva Mozes Kor az esetről később így mesélt: „Egy ügyvéd hívott fel és kért meg arra, hogy vegyek részt az auschwitzi könyvelő németországi perében. Azért utaztam oda, hogy ott is elmondjam a nézetemet, miszerint én megbocsátok, és nem tudok egyet érteni azzal, hogy ezt a 95 éves embert börtönbe akarja küldeni a többség. Sokkal inkább arra köteleztem volna őt, hogy tartson előadásokat, ahol a holokausztról adna hiteles beszámolót.
Persze sokaknak minderről az a kép maradt meg elsősorban, ahogy a megtört, fizikailag korlátozott ember megpróbált engem átkarolni, én pedig akaratlanul is visszaöleltem.
Nekem ez természetes gesztus volt. Én már nem egy áldozat, hanem egy büszke és aktív túlélő vagyok. Én ezzel a szemléletemmel próbálom más meghurcolt embertársaimat segíteni.
Naponta kapok leveleket, telefonokat olyanoktól, akiket bántalom ért, akár fizikai vagy lelki. Próbálom ösztönözni őket arra, hogy ha kiírják magukból az áldozat szerepét, és helyette megbocsátóként próbálják folytatni életüket, sokkal nagyobb eséllyel fognak egészségesen élni.”

Ismeretlen tettesek törték össze a marosvásárhelyi Holokauszt-emlékmű talapzatát a hétvégén. A hírre Soós Zoltán polgármesterjelölt a közösségi médiában kétnyelvű posztban hívta fel a figyelmet. A marosvásárhelyi Holokauszt-emlékmű a városból 1944-ben elhurcolt több mint 7500 zsidónak állít emléket. A szobrot 2003-ban állították.
A húsz éve a Maros Megyei Múzeum munkatársaként, 2006-tól pedig az intézmény vezetőjeként tevékenykedő régész, politikus így írt az esetről:
„Tegnap éjjel ismeretlen tettesek megrongálták a marosvásárhelyi holokauszt emlékművet. Gyalázatos tettüket elítélem. Közös a múltunk, közös a jövőnk. A totális diktatúrák által meghurcolt, megkínzott és legyilkolt ártatlan áldozatok iránti tiszteletadás mindannyiunk közös felelőssége, és mindnyájunk erkölcsi kötelessége. Felszólítom a rendőrséget, hogy mindent tegyen meg azért, hogy a tetteseket mielőbb megtalálják és felelősségre vonják.”
Az RMDSZ jelöltje az ígéri, hogy jövőre térfigyelő kamerákat szerelnek azokon a közterületeken is, ahol Marosvásárhely emlékművei állnak.
