A Hongkong Jordan városnegyedében található New Lucky House épületénél az utakat lezárták. A lángokat a tűzoltóknak egy óra alatt sikerült eloltaniuk. A rendőrség közlése szerint azonban még ezek után is segélykiáltások hallatszottak az épületből.
A több tucat sérült közül öt ember súlyos, egy pedig kritikus állapotban került kórházba.
A helyi média, köztük a South China Morning Post szerint a tűz a 16 emeletes, 1964-ben felhúzott épület aljánál található edzőteremben keletkezett.
A kormány bejelentette, hogy a tűz ügyében nyomozás indult.

Szombaton a hongkongi nemzetközi repülőtéren egy 51 éves férfi vámvizsgálaton esett át, amikor 11 kilogramm kokaint találtak elektromos kerekesszékébe rejtve. A becslések szerint a kábítószer utcai értéke 1,5 millió dollár – írja a BBC.
A férfit, aki szombaton Párizson keresztül érkezett a karibi Sint Maartenről, letartóztatták.
Életfogytiglani börtönbüntetésre számíthat, ha bűnösnek találják.
A vámosok szerint a gyanúsított a kerekesszéket két feladott poggyász egyikeként hozta be az országba. További vizsgálatot rendeltek el, amikor a személyzet gyanút fogott, és bizonyítékot találtak arra, hogy az üléspárnát és a háttámlát átvarrták.

A meteorológiai hivatal szerint a csütörtök óta tartó felhőszakadás a 140 éve tartó mérések alapján rekordmennyiségű csapadékot hozott, ami miatt Hongkongban utcák és metróállomások kerültek víz alá, az iskolákat pedig be kellett zárni. Napok óta ömlik az eső, folyamatosan mentik az embereket.
Mint azt a hongkongi mentőszolgálat közölte, csaknem száz ember kellett eddig kórházba szállítani, egy személy életét vesztette. A mentés folyamatos, a bajbajutottak pedig igyekeznek magasabb területekre menekülni a több méteres víz elől.
Az eső földcsuszamlásokat is okozott Hongkong hegyvidéki területein, és több autópálya is járhatatlanná vált. Péntekre ugyan a riasztási fokozatot csökkentették, de szombatig további eső várható.
A meteorológiai hivatal közleménye szerint 24 óra alatt 158,1 mm eső zúdult Hongkongra, ami a legmagasabb adat a feljegyzések 1884-es kezdete óta – számolt be róla a BBC. Ez később 200 mm-re nőtt, ami többhavi csapadéknak felel meg.
A heves esőzések Dél-Kínában is gondot okoztak, a Hongkonggal határos Sencsen városában szintén rekordmennyiségű eső esett. Guangdong tartományban a helyi hatóságok azt tanácsolták az alacsonyan fekvő területeken élőknek, hogy fontolják meg otthonaik elhagyását.

A baleset dél után történt egy alagút bejáratánál. A balesetben 60 ember könnyebb sérüléseket szenvedett el, tíz másik ember súlyosan megsérült – közölte a rendőrség.
Az ütközés során a busz ablakai betörtek, a rendőrség még vizsgálja a baleset okát.
Több tűzoltó, mentős és rendőr érkezett a helyszínre. Több embert hordágyakra helyeztek.

Mintegy 170 embert evakuáltak egy hongkongi bevásárlóközpontból, miután csütörtökön késő este tűz ütött ki egy 42 emeletes felhőkarcolóban – közölte a kormány.
A tűzoltók péntek kora reggel még javában küzdöttek a lángokkal, a tűzfészek a Viktória-kikötő túloldaláról is látható volt.
A szemtanúk szerint az épület felső emeleteit teljesen elborította a tűz, és a lángoló, lehulló törmelékek, köztük a bambuszállványok, kisebb tüzeket gyújtottak a szomszédos épületekben, írja a Reuters.
A tűz a 42 emeletes, befejezés előtt álló felhőkarcoló tetején keletkezett, és az állványzatot is elborította. A hatóságok szerint a tűz helyi idő szerint csütörtökön 23:11-kor ütött ki Kaulung sűrűn lakott bevásárló- és szórakozónegyedében.
A rendőrség szerint a tűz következtében hat szomszédos épület gyulladt ki, de a lángokat sikerült eloltani. Áldozatokról egyelőre nem érkezett hír.
A kigyulladt 42 emeletes felhőkarcoló átadására nem kellett volna sokat várni; az épület részét képezi az Empire Group fejlesztőcég 6 milliárd hongkongi dollár (764 millió dollár) értékű újjáépítési projektjének, írja az al-Dzsazíra pánarab hírtelevízió.

Az ausztrál rendőrség bejelentése szerint Hongkongban lefoglaltak egy 1 milliárd dollár értékű metamfetamint, amit Ausztráliába készültek éppen elhajózni. Az akcióban az ausztrál és a hongkongi hatóságok közösen vettek részt. Az 1,8 tonnányi folyékony methfogás rekordnak számít az országban, írja a Reuters.
A szállítmányról a hatóságok szerint az ausztrál rendőröknek Mexikóban sikerült információkat megszerezniük. Október 23-án csaptak le a szállítmányra, a folyékony metamfetamint kókuszvizes kartonok közé rejtve tárolták.
A kábítószert Ausztrália legnépesebb államába, Új-Dél-Walesbe tervezték áthajózni, ahol az utcai értéke egymilliárd dollár lett volna, és a mennyiség 18 millió adagnyi értékesítésre lett volna elegendő.
A rendőrök most nemzetközi együttműködés során a kereskedő bűnszervezetet igyekeznek felfedni.

A portál a nagyszabású rendőrségi akciót követően – melynek részeként a Stand News székhelyét is átkutatták, – elbocsátotta munkatársait és befejezte működését.
A hírportál korábbi és jelenlegi főszerkesztője ellen csütörtökön már vádat is emeltek felforgatás miatt.
Antony Blinken amerikai külügyminiszter a Twitteren közzétett bejegyzésében arra szólította fel a hongkongi hatóságokat, hogy engedjék szabadon az „igazságtalanul őrizetbe vett” embereket, és aggodalmát fejezte ki a Stand News megszűnése miatt.
Lam azonban úgy vélekedett „egyes nyugati kormányzatok és sajtóorgánumok a hongkongi törvények és a bizonyítékok ismerete híján jutottak egy bizonyos végkövetkeztetésre”. A hongkongi kormányzó szerint azok, akik a hongkongi hatóságokat a sajtó elnyomásával vádolják, „lábbal tapossák a jogállamiságot”. Hangsúlyozta: az újságírók nem állhatnak a törvények felett.
A SCMP rámutatott: Carrie Lam többszöri kérdésre sem adott választ arra, hogy pontosan mi minősül felforgató tartalomnak. A kérdés elől azzal tért ki, hogy az újságíróknak maguktól kell tisztában lenniük ezzel.
A Stand News idén a második, hongkongi ellenzéki körökben népszerű helyi sajtótermék, amely rendőrségi akciót követően szűnt meg. Felforgató anyagok kiadásának gyanújával őrizetbe vették a hongkongi ellenzéki körökben népszerű Stand News hírportál korábbi és jelenlegi főszerkesztőjét, valamint több, a portálhoz köthető embert szerdán Hongkongban – adta hírül internetes kiadásában a South China Morning Post (SCMP) című hongkongi lap.
Az őrizetbe vettek között a volt és jelenlegi főszerkesztőn kívül az igazgatótanács négy korábbi tagja, valamint egy újságíró van. Hat embert az otthonából vittek el kora reggel, míg egy ember, a már megszűnt Apple Daily hongkongi lap volt szerkesztője korábban került őrizetbe. A portál egyik helyettes szerkesztőjét pedig kihallgatásra vitték be.
A szerda reggeli akcióban több mint kétszáz rendőr vett részt, akik átkutatták a hírportál székhelyét, és több eszközt, köztük számítógépeket lefoglaltak. A rendőrség közleménye szerint az őrizetbe vett személyeket felforgató anyagok kiadásával és terjesztését célzó összeesküvés leplezésével gyanúsítják egy, a brit gyarmati uralom idejéből származó törvény alapján. A törvénysértés miatt akár két évig terjedő börtönbüntetés és ötezer hongkongi dollár (200 ezer forint) pénzbírság szabható ki.
Hasonló módon jártak el a hongkongi rendőrök a jelenleg börtönbüntetését töltő Jimmy Lai hongkongi médiamogul által alapított Apple Dailyvel szemben is, melynek megszűnését követően a Stand News vált a hongkongi ellenzék egyik utolsó, nyíltan demokráciapárti sajtóorgánumává.
