A napokban riasztás érkezett a tűzoltósághoz a faépítésű Szent Mihály templomban (nemzeti jelentőségű műemlék) keletkezett tűzről Iváskófalván.
Kiderült, hogy az atya az esti istentiszteletre készült, amikor hirtelen füstöt észlelt a templom kupolája alatt. Amikor kinyitotta az ajtót, látta, hogy a tűz már az egész épületet elérte. Azonnal értesítette a tűzoltókat, és a kiérkezésükig elkezdte kimenekíteni az értékeket. A helyiek is segítségére siettek: a pap és a lakosok kézi eszközökkel, vödrökkel próbálták visszatartani a lángokat, de az erőfeszítésük kevésnek bizonyult, a tűz gyorsan terjedt a templom fa szerkezetén.
A helyszínre az ilosvai és munkácsi tűzoltók érkeztek ki. A tűz elpusztította a tetőszerkezet egy részét, a bútorokat, az ikonokat és más tárgyakat, de a tűzoltóknak sikerült megakadályozni, hogy a lángok átterjedjenek a közelben álló harangtoronyra.
A tűz keletkezésének okát és a keletkezett károk mértékét a hatóságok vizsgálják.
