A Kanári-szigeteknek megvannak a korlátai jeligével megrendezett megmozduláson Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote és El Hierro szigetek lakói tüntettek változásért a turizmusban.
A tenerifei Playa de las Américas óceánparti üdülőhelyen a tiltakozók a parton napozó turisták közvetlen közelében skandálták, hogy „ez a strand a mienk”. Az aktivisták állítása szerint évente a látogatók milliói kimerítik a szigetek természeti erőforrásait, mint például az ivóvíz, és környezetvédelmi károkat is okoznak.
A spanyol kormány közlése szerint legalább nyolcezren vettek részt a megmozduláson.
Januártól szeptemberig mintegy 9,9 millió turista érkezett a Kanári-szigetekre a spanyol statisztikai hivatal szerint. Ez 10,3 százalékos növekedést jelent az előző év azonos időszakához képest. összehasonlításul: a szigeteken tavalyi adatok szerint 2,2 millióan laktak.
Az idén a Kanári-szigetekhez hasonló tüntetéseket tartottak már a szintén népszerű idegenforgalmi úti célnak számító Barcelonában, Malagában, illetve Mallorcán is. A tiltakozók szerint a turisták „felkergetik” az ingatlanárakat, és ellehetetlenítik a helybéliek megélhetését a városközpontokban.

Az Atlanti-óceán hét lakott szigetén a felháborodott helyi lakosok a turisták számának korlátozását követelték.
„Turisták, tűnjetek el!”, „Ez nem turizmus, ez invázió!”, „A Kanári-szigeteknek is megvannak a határai” – ilyen és ehhez hasonló jelszavakkal tüntettek a Spanyolországhoz tartozó, főként német és brit turisták körében népszerű szigetcsoporton az egyre növekvő tömegturizmus ellen.
A mintegy 55 ezer tüntető a turisták számának korlátozását követelte az Atlanti-óceán hét lakott szigetén. A további követelések között szerepelt a helyiek számára megfizethető lakások létrehozása és az idegenforgalmi ágazat ellenőrzése.
A helyi lakosok elsősorban az üdülőszállások szabályozását, a nem rezidensek ingatlanvásárlásának korlátozását és a turistákra kivetett környezetvédelmi adó bevezetését sürgették, de követelték két új szálloda építésének leállítását is Tenerifén, a legnagyobb és turisztikailag legfejlettebb szigeten.
Az elmúlt évben 14 millió külföldi látogató kereste fel a Kanári-szigeteket, többségük Németországból és az Egyesült Királyságból. A lakosság száma viszont 2,2 millió körül van, ezt az aránytalanság egyre rosszabbul viselik a helyiek – írja a legnagyobb német napilap, a Bild.
„Nem vagyunk a turizmus ellen. Csak azt követeljük, hogy változtassanak a turizmus korlátlan növekedésének jelenlegi modelljén” – mondta az egyik tüntető, Rosario Correo a TVE közszolgálati televíziónak.
A szervezők főként azt kifogásolják, hogy a Kanári-szigeteken a turizmus jelenlegi formájában káros a szigetlakókra és a környezetre. Elpanaszolták azt is, hogy a politikusok nem veszik figyelembe a szempontjaikat, „inkább a turisztikai komplexumok és szállodák építésére koncentrálnak.”
A demonstrálók olyan fenntartható modellt szeretnének, amely figyelembe veszi a környezeti hatásokat, például a felmelegedés okozta vízhiányt, és amely kevésbé terheli a költségeket és a lakhatást.
A spanyol statisztikai hivatal (INE) adatai szerint 2023-ban a Kanári-szigeteken élők 34 százalékát fenyegette szegénység vagy társadalmi kirekesztés, ami Andalúzia után a második legmagasabb adat Spanyolországban.
A turizmus a Kanári-szigetek gazdaságának 35 százalékát teszi ki, és ez ágazat adja a szigetcsoport munkahelyeinek 40 százalékát. A turistákat főként a pazar strandok és az egész évben élvezhető napsütés vonzzák elsősorban.
Az elmúlt héten a „Kanári-szigetek kiárusítása” nevű tiltakozó mozgalom több aktivistája éhségsztrájkba is lépett a tömegturizmus ellen, és voltak tiltakozó megmozdulások Barcelonában és Madridban is.

Legalább ötszáz embert kellett kimenekíteni szombaton a spanyolországi La Palma szigetén pusztító erdőtűz elől – közölte a helyi hatóság.
Az erdőtűz az első természeti katasztrófa a Kanári-szigetekhez tartozó La Palmán a 2021-es vulkánkitörés óta.
A tűz szombat hajnalban tört ki a sziget északi részén, El Pintar de Puntagora egy erdős területén.
„Legalább 11 ház leégett, ahogy a lángok terjedtek.” – közölte Fernando Clavijo, a Kanári-szigetek elnöke.
A kimenekítésre szorulók száma az 1000-et is elérheti, attól függ, sikerül-e az erős szeleket kivédeni mondta újságíróknak La Palmán.
Beszámolója szerint a tűzvész nagyjából 140 hektár területet égetett fel.
Négy helikopter és négy tűzoltóegység harcol a lángok ellen a nyugat-afrikai partok közelében található szigeten. A hatóságok a szomszédos szigetektől, köztük Tenerifétől és Gomerától is kértek segítséget.
2021 szeptemberében több mint 2000 épület dőlt romba és emberek ezrei kényszerültek elhagyni az otthonukat, amikor a Cumbra Vieja tűzhányó kitört és lávát borított a szigetre. Három hónapon át tartott a kitörés, vastag koromtakarót hagyott maga után a vidéken.

A spanyol hatóságok 4,5 tonna kokaint foglaltak le a Kanári-szigeteknél egy togói zászló alatt közlekedő teherhajón, amely Latin-Amerikából érkezett – jelentette be a spanyol rendőrség szombaton.
Elmondták, hogy több mint két éve figyelték az Orion V nevű hajót, melyet többször is átkutattak már, de eddig a „megfelelő bizonyítékok” ellenére nem sikerült a fedélzeten kábítószerre bukkanni. Az áttörést egy légi egység érte el január 24-én. A hajó élő állatokat szállított a Közel-Keletre, a kokaint pedig az állatok etetéséhez használt silókban rejtették el.
Az akcióban a hajó teljes, 28 fős legénységét őrizetbe vették. A spanyol bűnüldöző szervek mellett az amerikai kábítószer-ellenes hatóság (DEA), a togói rendőrség is részt vett.
Január közepén egy ugyanekkora és ugyanígy togói zászló alatt hajózó teherszállítón ugyanekkora mennyiségű kokaint találtak, szintén a Kanári-szigetek közelében. Így januárban a spanyol hatóságok összesen 9 tonna kokaint foglaltak le.

Kitörése után három héttel továbbra sem csillapodik a Cumbre Vieja vulkán a spanyol Kanári-szigetekhez tartozó La Palma szigetén, ahol a szakemberek arra figyelmezettek vasárnap, hogy a szélirány változása miatt ismét bizonytalanná válhat a repülőtér működése.
A tűzhányó észak-nyugati kürtője beomlott a hétvégén és a felduzzadó lávafolyam óriási, ház nagyságú sziklákat sodort magával.
A több mint 1200 Celsius-fok forróságú magma teljesen elpusztította Todoque település északi részét, amely a leginkább érintett zónája a vulkánkitörésnek.
Helyszíni beszámolók szerint még mindig folyamatosak a morajlások és gyakoriak a kisebb földrengések, amelyek a Kanári-szigetek vulkanológiai intézete (Involcan) szerint 10-15 kilométer mélységben zajlanak.
A szakemberek attól tartanak, hogy a földrengések újabb kitörési pontot nyitnak a felszínen. Az Involcan számítása szerint több mint 39,6 millió köbméternyi vulkáni anyag került felszínre az elmúlt hetekben.
A lávafolyamok eddig 1186 épületet semmisítettek meg és mintegy száz ház van közvetlen veszélyben. A letarolt földterület nagysága meghaladja az 525 hektárt.
A sziget 14 települése közül négyet érint a természeti katasztrófa, a kitörés kezdetén mintegy hatezer embert kellett kitelepíteni elővigyázatosságból. Többen közülük biztonsági kísérettel rövid időre hazamehettek vasárnap, hogy személyes tárgyaikat magukhoz vehessék.
María José Blanco, a spanyol geográfiai intézet (IGN) igazgatója sajtótájékoztatón beszélt arról, hogy az időjárási előrejelzés szerint várhatóan megváltozik a szélirány hétfőre, amely újból érintheti a repülőtér működését. A légikikötőt eddig már kétszer le kellett zárni kifutópályákon összegyűlt nagy mennyiségű vulkáni hamu miatt.

A La Palma-vulkán már hatodik napja ontja magából a lávát, és még hetekig sőt hónapokig is eltarthatnak a lávafolyamok a Spanyolországhoz tartozó Kanári-szigeteken.
A hamu beterítette a La Palma repülőteret. A takarítószemélyzet próbálja a mintegy 250 ezer négyzetméternyi területet megtisztítani. A mai napra tervezett összes járatot törölték. Az utasok csak a tengeren hagyhatják el a szigetet, vagy megvárhatják a repülőgép indulását, amennyiben a kifutópálya szabaddá válik.
„Két lehetőséget kínáltak fel nekünk, vagy kifizetik a repülőjegyünket, és elmehetünk Tenerifére, vagy itt maradunk a lezárt reptéren, ameddig újra ki nem nyit” – mondja egy repülőtéren rekedt utas.
Mivel a repülőtér zárva van, a szigetről az egyetlen kiutat a tenger jelenti. Több száz ember marad Santa Cruz de La Palma kikötőjében, és máris hosszú sorban állnak azok, akik hajóval akarják elhagyni a szigetet. Eredetileg 9 hajó indult volna ma a szigetről, de látva a tömegeket a társaságok bejelentették, hogy sűrítik a hajójáratokat a szigetről.

A Spanyolországhoz tartozó Kanári-szigetek La Palma szigetén már több napja ömlik a Cumbre Vieja vulkán lávája.
Az akár hatméteres magasságú, óránként mintegy 120 métert előre haladó lávafolyamok minden eltipornak, ami az útjukba kerül. Kritikus lehet, amikor elérik a tengert, mert a több mint 1000 Celsius-fokos láva és a víz találkozása robbanásokat okozhat, valamint mérgező gázfelhők keletkezhetnek.
La Palmáról személyi sérülést még nem jelentettek, de már több mint 180 ház megsemmisült, és mintegy 6000 embert evakuáltak.
A sziget láva által érintett térségeit katasztrófa sújtotta övezetnek minősítették, az anyagi kárt eddig mintegy 400 millió euróra becsülik.
Tudósok szerint a lávafolyás akár hónapokig is eltarthat.
