Fotó: REUTERS/Soe Zeya Tun A szivárgás kedden kezdődött, a Star Petroleum Refining olajvezetékéből, amit másnapra sikeresen megfékeztek, miután mintegy ötvenezer liter olaj ömlött a Thai-öbölbe az ipari tengerparttól csaknem húsz kilométerre – írta a Guardian.
Az olaj egy része pénteken elérte a Mae Ramphueng tengerpartot, miután 47 négyzetkilométernyi területen terjedt szét a vízfelszínen.
A thai haditengerészet a vállalattal közösen a szivárgás megfékezésén dolgozik és azt közölték: az olaj nagy része még nem érte el partokat, mindössze két helyen mosnak a hullámok a partra egy keveset. Összesen százötven Star Petroleum Refining dolgozót és kétszáz hadi-tengerészt vezényeltek a helyszínre, hogy megtisztítsák a tengerpartot és olaj-gátakat állítsanak fel, valamint, hogy megakadályozzák a kiömlött olaj további terjedését.
Tizenkét hadihajó és három civil hajó, valamint számos repülőgép dolgozott az kiömlött olaj megfékezésén.

A természeti csapás eddig két emberéletet követelt.
Egy 61 éves férfi holtestét az árvíz elsodorta autójában találták meg. Egy 49 éves nő pedig akkor vesztette életét, amikor földcsuszamlás miatt autójára ráomlott a saját házának egyik melléképülete.
Az Európai Unió Kopernikusz nevű Föld-megfigyelési programjának műholdas adatai szerint már több mint kilencezer hektárnyi terület került víz alá spanyol földön. Nagyrészük termőföld, de számos közutat is járhatatlanná tettek az áradások.
A Navarrában található Tudela városát a hétvégén érte el az Ebro folyó árhulláma, helyenként másfél méteres magasságban elöntve utcákat, a víz épületekbe, üzlethelyiségekbe is befolyt. Több mint húsz embert evakuálni kellett.
Az árhullám várhatóan kedden érkezik meg Aragón tartomány fővárosába, Zaragozába, ahol az alacsonyan fekvő Alfocea kerület egyes részein élőket elővigyázatosságból már kitelepítették. A védekezésben a katonaság speciális egységei segédkeznek.
A rendkívül heves esőzések, valamint az enyhe idő hatására a hegyekben bekövetkezett olvadás miatt több folyó vízszintje megemelkedett Spanyolország északi vidékein, helyenként húsz éve nem látott mértékű áradásokat okozva. Az árvíz Baszkföld, valamint Kasztília és León északi részét is érintette.

Joe Biden amerikai elnök szombaton jóváhagyta a katasztrófahelyzet kihirdetését a tornádók sújtotta Kentucky államban, ahol legkevesebb hetvennyolcan vesztették életüket az ítéletidőben – írja a hvg.hu.
Biden több dolgot is mondott a katasztrófáról. Megígérte a károsultaknak, hogy bármire legyen is szükségük, a kormány igyekszik segíteni, és azt is hozzátette, hogy ebben a pillanatban senki sem demokrata vagy republikánus, egy ilyen vészhelyzetben első sorban mindenki amerikai, ezért együtt fogják átvészelni ezt.„Ez lehet történelmünk egyik legnagyobb tornádószerencsétlensége. Tragédia. Még most sem tudjuk pontosan, hányan vesztették életüket és milyen károk keletkeztek”-– mondta Biden. Az elnököt a klímaváltozás hatásairól is kérdezték, erről elmondta, hogy ráállítja a szakembereket, továbbá szerinte a tornádóriasztásokkal is jobban kell foglalkozni.

Az államfő részvétét fejezte ki a tűz sújtotta övezetben életüket vesztett polgártársak hozzátartozóinak és barátainak.
Bekir Pakdemirli, erdészeti és mezőgazdasági miniszter korábban közölte, a július 31-i reggeli adatok szerint a tűzoltóság a 98 erdőtűz közül 88-at lokalizált, 10 erdőtűz oltása folyamatban van.
Az erdőtüzek oltásában 45 helikopter, 6 repülőgép és több ezer tűzoltóautó vesz részt. A Mash Telegram-csatorna tett közzé egy videót Antalyai erdőtűzről.
„Nem horrorfilmből látnak részletet. Ez egy török autóút jelenleg. Az erdőtüzek miatt a világ egy forró serpenyővé változott: az emberek autóikkal hajtanak keresztül az égő erdőkön” – kommentálta a videót. A Telegram-csatorna szerzői elmondták, Erdogan nem zárja ki az erdőtüzek mesterséges eredetét. Többek között a köztársaságban betiltott párt általi gyújtogatás és szabotázs lehetőségét is mérlegelik.
