Andrius Kubilius védelemért és űrkutatásért felelős európai biztos elmondása szerint az Európai Bizottság műholdas képességeinek bővítését fontolgatja a térinformatikai hírszerzés javítása érdekében. Az új rendszer lehetővé teszi a fenyegetések nyomon követését, beleértve a csapatok mozgását, valamint a katonai akciók összehangolását.

Az iráni Forradalmi Gárda szerdai bejelentése szerint, Irán sikeresen pályára állított egy katonai műholdat.
A közlés szerint a Núr (Fény) elnevezésű műholdat az ország középső régiójából lőtték fel, egy eddig ismeretlen, Kasszed típusú, iráni gyártmányú hordozórakéta segítségével, és 425 kilométeres magasságban állították Föld körüli pályára. A Mehr félhivatalos iráni hírügynökség szerint a műholdat szerda reggel bocsátották fel, a Forradalmi Gárda megalakulásának 41. évfordulójának alkalmából.
A hírt más források egyelőre nem erősítették meg.
Irán az elmúlt hónapokban többször próbálkozott műholdak fellövésével, ám ezek nem jártak sikerrel. Legutóbb februárban tettek kísérletet erre, ám a műhold akkor nem érte el a Föld körüli pályát.
Hétfőn a gárda haditengerészeti erőinek vezetője azt közölte, hogy az iszlám köztársaság 700 kilométeres hatótávolságú haditengerészeti rakétát fejlesztett ki.
Nyugati szakértők szerint az iszlám köztársaság katonai képességeire vonatkozó hivatalos bejelentések hitelessége legalábbis megkérdőjelezhető.
