Az állam kormányzója arról számolt be, hogy a halálos áldozatok között három gyerek is van. A tájékoztatás szerint katonák segítségével a mentőegységek munkagépekkel és mentőkutyákkal kutatnak túlélők után a romok alatt. Harminc embernek nyoma veszett – közölte a texasi határ mentén fekvő Tamaulipas állam védelmi minisztériumának szóvivője.

A helyi Foro TV televíziós csatorna hírműsorában a minisztérium szóvivője köszönetet mondott a helyi vállalkozóknak, hogy felszerelést biztosítottak a romok eltakarításához és segítettek a mentési munkálatokban.
José Armando Álvarez, az egyházmegyét vezető püspök elmondta, hogy a templomban éppen keresztelőt tartottak, amikor a templom teteje beomlott. Mintegy nyolcvanan lehettek az épületben. „Jelenleg a mentőcsapatok a szükséges munkálatokat végzik, hogy kimentsék a romok alatt rekedt embereket” – mondta a püspök.
