„Szeptember 6-án terrorista támadások következtében hat állampolgárt lefejeztek, hármat elhurcoltak, és bár hat terroristát sikerült elfogni, házak tucatjait perzselték fel Nampula tartomány Erati és Memba körzeteiben” – tájékoztatott az elnök.
A helyi sajtó és Mety Gondola államtitkár beszámolója szerint kedden este Nacala városában agyonlőttek egy 83 éves olasz apácát. Két másik misszionáriusnak sikerült elmenekülnie. Gondola nem említett részleteket az esetről, csak annyit közölt, hogy a helyzet roppant aggasztó. A portugál Lusa hírügynökség úgy tudja, a támadóknak áldozatul esett idős nő a Comboni Misszionárius Nővérek katolikus vallási intézet tagja volt, és 1963 óta dolgozott az afrikai országban.
Mozambik északi Cabo Delgado tartományát 2017 óta tartják rettegésben az Iszlám Állam terrorszervezetéhez köthető iszlamisták. Az erőszakhullám emberéletek ezreit követelte, és százezrek voltak kénytelenek elmenekülni otthonaikból. Mindemellett a terroristák komoly gazdasági károkat is okoztak erőszakos cselekedeteikkel, így a Total francia energetikai vállalat húszmilliárd dolláros gázkitermelési projektjét is le kellett állítani.

Többtucatnyian meghaltak egy katolikus templomban történt terrortámadásban Nigéria délnyugati részén vasárnap – közölték helyi tisztviselők.
A támadók az Ondo állambeli Owo városának Szent Ferenc katolikus templomát vették célba, amikor a hívők pünkösd vasárnapján összegyűltek – mondta Ogunmolasuyi Oluwole törvényhozó.
A halottak között sok gyermek is volt.
Az elöljáró papot is elrabolták – tette hozzá Adelegbe Timileyin, Owo körzet képviselője a nigériai törvényhozás alsóházában. Úgy tudja, hogy legalább 50 embert megöltek, bár mások szerint sokkal többet.
A támadás helyszínén készült videókon a templom hívői vértócsákban feküdtek, miközben a körülöttük lévő emberek jajveszékeltek. Muhammadu Buhari nigériai elnök egy közleményben azt írta, hogy bármi történjék is, ez az ország soha nem fog engedni a gonosznak és a gyarló embereknek, a sötétség soha nem fogja legyőzni a fényt. Egyelőre nem tisztázott, hogy ki állt az egyház elleni támadás mögött. Míg Nigéria nagy része biztonsági problémákkal küzd, Ondo állam Nigéria egyik legbékésebb tagállamaként ismert. A térségben azonban a farmerek és a pásztorok közötti erőszakos konfliktus egyre inkább elharapódzik.
A nigériai biztonsági erők nem válaszoltak azonnal arra a kérdésre, hogy miképpen történt a támadás, vagy hogy vannak-e nyomok a gyanúsítottakról. Owo mintegy 345 kilométerre keletre fekszik az ország legnagyobb városától, Lagostól.
