Keresztények tízezrei tüntettek a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban az ország keleti felét szorongató erőszak ellen vasárnap.
Az MTI szerint a vasárnapi misét követően az ország fővárosában, Kinshasában és más nagyvárosokban a hívek tízezrei özönlötték el az utcákat, követve a helyi katolikus püspöki konferencia felhívását.
A tüntetők az ellen a küzdelem ellen tiltakoztak, amelyet a közép-afrikai ország vezetése folytat az ország keleti részén tucatnyi fegyveres szervezettel szemben. Ezek közt a Március 23. Mozgalom (M23) nevű szervezet harcosaival is küzdenek, akiket – állításuk szerint – a szomszédos Ruanda támogat (ezt viszont a ruandai kormány tagadja).
A kormány hadserege és az M23 között októberben szabadult el ismét az erőszak, és ennek következtében az ENSZ humanitárius ügyeket koordináló hivatala (OCHA) szerint 390 ezer embernek kellett elmenekülnie az otthonából.
