Belgiumban meghalt egy 90 éves asszony, aki egyszerre a koronavírus két variánsával fertőződött meg.
Az oltatlan asszony egyedül élt otthon, amikor egy gondozói szolgálat gondoskodott róla. Azután, hogy többször elesett, márciusban bevitték az aalsti kórházba, ahol még aznap pozitívan tesztelték koronavírusra. Eleinte az oxigénszaturációja kielégítő volt, majd váratlanul rosszabbra fordult az állapota és öt nappal később elhunyt – tájékoztatott a Klinikai Mikrobiológia és Fertőző Betegségek Európai Kongresszusa. A későbbi tesztek kimutatták, hogy az asszony egyszerre fertőződött meg az Alfa- és a Béta-variánssal. „Abban az időben mindkét variáns jelen volt Belgiumban, így valószínű, hogy az asszony két különböző embertől két különböző vírust kapott el“ – mondta Anne Vankeerberghen molekuláris biológus. Mivel a szaklapokban eddig nem publikáltak hasonló társfertőzéseket, minden bizonnyal egy alábecsült jelenségről van szó, mivel nem végeznek elegendő mennyiségű teszteket az egyes variánsok kiszűrésére.
