Irán által támogatott radikális fegyveres csoportok dróntámadást követtek el Jordánia szíriai határának közelében amerikai egységek ellen, három katona meghalt, 25 megsebesült – közölte Joe Biden amerikai elnök vasárnap a katonai incidens hírére reagálva.
Az elnök közleményében a felelősök elszámoltatását ígérte, és úgy fogalmazott, hogy a felelősségre vonás idejét és módját az Egyesült Államok fogja megválasztani.
A támadás hírét vasárnap megerősítette a térségért felelős amerikai központi parancsnokság (CENTCOM), amely annyit közölt, hogy Jordánia északkeleti részén három katona meghalt és 25 megsebesült, amikor dróntámadás ért egy támaszpontot.
Katonai illetékesek ezt azzal egészítették ki, hogy a halálos áldozatokkal járó támadást a 22-es Torony (Tower 22) elnevezésű katonai őrhelyen állomásozó amerikai egységek ellen követték el, ami Jordánia területén fekszik, közel Szíriához. Arra egyelőre nincs magyarázat, hogy a légvédelmi eszközök miért nem léptek működésbe, hogy elhárítsák a támadást.
A Hamász palesztin szélsőséges szervezet Izrael elleni tavaly október 7-i támadása óta megszaporodtak a térségben állomásozó amerikai egységek elleni rakéta- és dróntámadások, de most először vesztették életüket amerikai katonák.
Az elmúlt három hónapban a támadások mindennapossá váltak, és az összesítések szerint október 17-e óta Szíriában és Irakban mintegy 160 alkalommal lőttek ki, illetve irányítottak amerikai egységek támaszpontja felé rakétát vagy drónokat olyan radikális iszlamista fegyveres csoportok, amelyek Irán anyagi és katonai támogatását élvezik. Ezekben 70 amerikai katona szenvedett – egy kivétellel könnyű – sebesüléseket.
Az amerikai médiában megszólaló katonai elemzők úgy fogalmaztak, hogy az amerikai egységeket támadó fegyveresek azzal, hogy amerikai katonákat öltek meg, átléptek egy határt, ami az elrettentésre épülő amerikai Közel-Kelet-politika megváltozásához vezethet, és ezzel párhuzamosan a közel-keleti konfliktus kiéleződéséhez.
