Április 4-én a bangladesi Shitalaksha folyón egy teherhajó és egy komp ütközött, amelyen közel ötven utas tartózkodott, 5 ember életét vesztette. Tizenegy embert kimentettek a vízből, közölte a Narayanganj körzet szóvivője. Néhány utas egyedül érte el a partot. A mentési műveletet bonyolítja a rossz időjárás.
A több mint 50 embert szállító, túlzsúfolt emeletes komp Narayanganjból indult, közölte a helyi rendőrfelügyelő. Elmondása szerint sok utas sietett elhagyni a várost a koronavírus miatt április 5-től bevezetendő egyhetes szigorú lockdown miatt.
Gyakoriak a kompbalesetek a Népköztársaságban, ahol emberek milliói használják ezt a közlekedési módot. Bár az elmúlt évekhez képest csökkent az esetek száma, mivel a hatóságok növelték a felelősségre vonást a rossz állapotban, hajózásra alkalmatlan hajók használatáért.
