A phenjani vezetés szócsövének számító KCNA a hadsereg egyik parancsnokára, Ko Dzsongholra hivatkozva azt közölte,
a kommunista ország „arányos válaszlépéseket” tervez a határ észak-koreai oldalán folytatott építkezések megzavarásáért, és „nem vállal felelősséget az esetleges súlyos következményekért”.
A közleményben egyúttal felszólítják Szöult, tartózkodjon az ilyen jellegű „provokációktól”, amelyek „háborús konfliktushoz vezethetnek”. A dél-koreai vezérkari főnökök egyesített bizottságának (JCS) közleménye szerint a határ menti térségnél több észak-koreai katona kísérelt meg a déli oldalra jutni, ezért a dél-koreai hadsereg figyelmeztető lövéseket adott le.
A vezérkar júniusban arról adott hírt, hogy észak-koreai katonák hónapok óta a két Koreát átszelő vasúti sínek eltávolításán dolgoznak, emellett feltehetően tankelhárító falakat húznak föl, illetve aknákat telepítenek a határ mentén.
Az építkezések kezdete óta már kétszer fordult elő hasonló határsértés a Koreai-félszigeten. A vezérkar állítása szerint azokban az esetekben sem volt szándékos az észak-koreaiak részéről a határ átlépése.
Ugyancsak szombaton Phenjan – a KCNA hírügynökségen keresztül – ismét bírálta Dél-Korea az Egyesült Államokkal közös, hétfőn kezdődött, 11 napos hadgyakorlatát.
Dél-Koreában jelenleg mintegy 28 500 amerikai katona állomásozik.
