Első alkalommal szedett halálos áldozatot az új típusú koronavírus delta variánsa Új-Zélandon; szombaton 20 újabb fertőzöttet találtak Aucklandben, ahol a legújabb járványhullám felütötte a fejét.
Az egészségügyi hatóságok tájékoztatása szerint az áldozat egy kilencvenes éveiben lévő nő, akinek krónikus betegségei is voltak. Új-Zélandon február közepe óta nem volt halálos áldozata a járványnak.
„Minden halál arra emlékeztet, hogy milyen károkat okoz a Covid-19, ha bejut közösségünkbe” – fogalmazott közleményében Jacinda Ardern új-zélandi kormányfő. „Az idősebb új-zélandiak és a krónikus betegek vannak a legnagyobb veszélyben, és éppen ezért fontos eszközt jelentenek a lezárások a vírus feltartóztatásában” – hangoztatta a miniszterelnök.
Aucklandben augusztus közepe óta szigorú korlátozások vannak érvényben, amióta megjelent a városban a delta variáns. A szigetország többi részén is arra kérték az embereket, hogy, ha lehet, maradjanak otthon. Az iskolák, kávézók, éttermek és a nyilvános helyek többsége is zárva van.
Jelenleg 782 aktív fertőzöttről tudnak az új-zélandi hatóságok; 765-ről Aucklandben, 17-ről pedig a fővárosban, Wellingtonban. Az ötmillió lakosú országban 3392 ember kapta el a vírust a járvány kezdete óta, amelynek a szigetországban 27 halálos áldozata van.
Kubában eközben országos kampányt indított a kormány a 2 és 18 év közötti gyerekek beoltására az új típusú koronavírus ellen. Bár korábban Kína és Venezuela is bejelentette, hogy megkezdik a gyerekek vakcinázását, Kuba az első, ahol ez már meg is kezdődött, miközben a kommunista ország egészségügyi rendszere teljesítőképessége határához közelít az esetszámok emelkedése miatt. Az ország kommunista vezetése emellett a gyerekek beoltását az iskolák újranyitásának feltételéül szabta.
Kubában kubai fejlesztésű és gyártású Abdala és Soberana vakcinával oltják be először a 12 és 18 év közöttieket, majd szeptember 15-től a 2 és 11 év közötti gyerekeket.
A szigetország iskolái 2020 tavasza óta zárva vannak, csak pár hétre nyitottak újra az előző tanév végén. Azóta minden diák televízión keresztül követhetett tanórákat, és hétfőtől, a kubai iskolakezdés napjától is egyelőre ez vár rájuk. A kormány döntése értelmében az oktatási intézményeket fokozatosan fogják újra megnyitni októberben és novemberben, ha a gyerekek is megkapják a védőoltást.
A 11 millió lakosú, karibi szigetországban eddig 672 599 fertőzöttet regisztráltak, és 5538-an haltak bele a Covid-19-be.

Csoportos kártérítési keresetet nyújtott be 500 Covid-19 elhunyt családja az olasz kormány, az egészségügyi minisztérium és Lombardia tartománya ellen.
Jelképes százmillió euró, vagyis több mint három és fél milliárd forint kártérítést követelnek az olasz kormánytól és az egészségügyi hatóságoktól a Lombardia tartományban az új koronavírus-járvány terjedése kezdetén meghalt betegek családtagjai a római bíróságon csütörtökön kezdődött perben.
A halottaiknak igazságot követelő rokonok a bíróság épülete előtt úgy nyilatkoztak, az igazságszolgáltatástól várnak választ a politikától megválaszolatlan kérdésekre.
“Tudni akarjuk, meg lehetett volna menteni a szeretteinket” – mondta egy férfi a sajtónak.
A 2020 februárjában Covid-19-ben elhunyt ötszáz beteg családjai indítottak csoportos kártérítési keresetet a kormány, az egészségügyi minisztérium és Lombardia tartomány ellen.
A per az észak-olaszországi tartomány egyik gócpontjában, Alzano Lombardo és Nembro város közötti térségében meghalt idősek halálának körülményeit kívánja tisztázni: kórházban vagy idősotthonban elhunyt betegekről volt szó a pandémia első heteiben, amikor még nem volt közismert a járvány terjedése.
Az elsőnek tartott Covid-19 beteget tavaly február 20-án azonosították a lombardiai Codognóban, ami az új koronavírus-járvány hivatalos kezdeti dátumának számított. A kártérítést követelők szerint azonban a betegség már korábban jelen volt a térségben. Az ügyvédeik által benyújtott több mint kétezer oldalas vádirat szerint a kisvárosok kórházai már januárban tele voltak tüdőgyulladásos idős beteggel.
Mindennek ellenére Alzano Lombardo és Nembro idősotthonai és kórházait csak február 23-án zárták le, majd a pánik elkerülésére hivatkozva egy nap után újranyitották. A teljes zárlatot csak március közepén rendelték el.
A halottanként 200 ezer euró kártérítést követelő családtagok úgy látják, hogy az akkori, Giuseppe Conte vezette kormány és a Roberto Speranza vezette egészségügyi tárca alulbecsülte a veszélyt, és nem cselekedett a lakosság védelmében.
A volt miniszterelnököt, a volt és jelenlegi egészségügyi minisztert, valamint Lombardia tartományi vezetőit Bergamo ügyészsége is meghallgatta már a vizsgálat keretében, amely szintén arra keres választ, hogy a hatóságok időben léptették-e életbe a járvány miatti válságintézkedéseket.
Lombardia régióban, és kiemelten Bergamo térségében volt a legmagasabb a halottak lakossághoz mért aránya a járvány első hullámában.

Néhány nap alatt 50 holttestet találtak Gahmar városánál a folyóban, és csak hétfőn további 40-et onnan 55 kilométerre.
Az nem tisztázott, hogy miként kerültek a vízbe a holttestek, de valószínűleg a járvány áldozatai mindannyian. Személyazonosságuk egyelőre szintén nem ismert.
A helyiek állítólag az elmúlt napokban bűzre panaszkodtak a hatóságoknál, de csak azt követően történt bármi is, hogy hétfőn megtalálták az első holttesteket, amik már erősen bomlásnak indultak.

Indiában még mindig pusztít a koronavírus, a krematóriumok szinte mindenhol megteltek. A járvány kezdete óta eddig 22 millió esetet azonosítottak és 249 992-en haltak meg a betegségben. Szakértők szerint viszont a valós számok még ennél is magasabbak lehetnek.
