A heves esőzések okozta súlyos áradások miatt több száz ember kényszerült elhagyni az otthonát az északkelet-ausztráliai Queensland államban. Az ausztrál hatóságok több mint 300 embert mentettek ki, s megállás nélkül dolgoztak, miközben többen is a háztetőkre kapaszkodva várták a kimenekítést.



Félő volt, hogy a közel 160 ezer lelkes Cairns városában elfogy az ivóvíz. Queensland állam rendőrfőnöke, Katarina Carroll „teljesen pusztítónak” nevezte az áradást, hozzátéve, hogy sem súlyos sérülés, sem pedig haláleset nem történt az ítéletidő következtében. Mint kiderült, a környéken az elmúlt héten átlagosan több mint 2 méternyi eső esett.









A felhőszakadás, amelyet részben a Jasper nevű korábbi trópusi ciklon váltott ki, több mint 500 milliméter csapadékot hozott a Daintree, Mossman és Barron vízgyűjtő területére egyetlen nap leforgása alatt. Cairns repülőterét ideiglenesen lezárták, emellett járatokat töröltek vagy halasztottak el. Az észak-queenslandi Wujal Wujal őslakos település pedig teljesen elszigetelődött a külvilágtól.



Az esőzések utakat és vasútvonalakat vágtak el, egész közösségeket zártak el, s december 18-ára 14 ezer otthon és vállalkozás maradt áram nélkül. Az áradások és áramkimaradások közepette sok helyen krokodilok bukkantak fel az utcákon nagy számban, ami tovább fokozta a veszélyt – számolt be a 24.hu az Independent-re hivatkozva.

Több mint hetven szökött krokodilt keresnek a Guangdong tartománybeli Maoming városában, ahol az elmúlt napok szélsőséges időjárása miatt kiáradt egy tó, amiből több tucat krokodil elszökött.

A hatóságok közölték, hogy a kereskedelmi célú krokodilfarmról több mint hetven hüllő szökött el az áradások után. A Peng Cun-i lakosokat arra kérték, hogy mindenki maradjon otthon, miután több krokodilészlelést is jelentettek a környéken.

A helyi katasztrófavédelmi hivatal több állami szerv segítségével hajtóvadászatot indított a krokodilok felkutatására, több példányt már befogtak, de sok hüllő még mindig szabadon kószál.



A krokodilokat Kínában a bőrükért és a húsukért tenyésztik, amelyet néha a hagyományos gyógyászatban használnak.

Nem kis riadalom támadt egy indiai városban, miután három felbőszült krokodil került elő a járda alól.



A lakók felidézték, hogy furcsa zajokat hallottak a repedezett járda alól. Mikor közelebbről szemügyre vették, hogy kiderítsék a zajok forrását, a lélegzetük is elállt, ugyanis három krokodil próbált feltörni a föld alól a járdán keresztül.
