Az ukrajnai háború kezdete, azaz 2022. február 24. óta összesen 341 kulturális helyszínt, köztük több, a világörökség részét képező épületet ért károsodás a megtámadott országban – tudatta kedden az ENSZ Nevelésügyi, Tudományos és Kulturális Szervezete (UNESCO).
A párizsi székhelyű szervezet, amely tavaly szeptemberben fokozott védelmet ítélt meg húsz kiemelt ukrajnai kulturális örökségi helyszínnek, az elmúlt két évben súlyosan megrongálódott épületek között közleményében kiemelte az Odessza történelmi központjában található Krisztus színeváltozása székesegyházat. A világörökség részét képező ortodox templomot Sztálin 1936-ban leromboltatta, majd 2000 és 2002 között az eredeti épülethez hűen újjáépítették.
Az UNESCO szerint a több száz ukrajnai helyszínt ért károk értékét lehetetlen pontosan felmérni, a kulturális és turisztikai létesítményekben a háború kezdete óta keletkezett károk értékét azonban mintegy 3,75 milliárd dollárra becsülik.
Az elmúlt két évben az UNESCO mintegy 66 millió dollárt tudott mozgósítani a helyreállításokra, a legfontosabb adományozó Japán volt 25 millió dollárral – fűzte hozzá közleményében a szervezet.
