 „Az épületet, amelyben a tűz keletkezett, munkások elhelyezésére használták, és sokan tartózkodtak bent az eset idején. Többtucatnyi embert sikerült kimenteni, de sajnos többen életüket vesztették füstmérgezés következtében. Mindig figyelmeztetünk és óva intünk attól, hogy túl sok munkást zsúfoljanak össze egy lakótelepen” – mondta egy magas rangú rendőrtiszt az állami televíziónak.
  
 A kuvaiti egészségügyi minisztérium tájékoztatása szerint a tűz miatt mintegy 43 ember került kórházba, és közülük négyen az orvosi ellátás ellenére életüket vesztették.
 A hatóságok közölték, hogy megfékezték a tüzet és vizsgálják a keletkezésének okát.
