Egyre nagyobb gondot okoz az illegális bevándorlás Olaszország déli részén. A migránsok áthelyezése Lampedusa szigetéről az ország más pontjaira az egyetlen módja annak, hogy enyhítsék a túlzsúfolt helyi befogadóközpontra nehezedő nyomást.
Egy csoportot a szicíliai Porto Empedocle városába vittek komppal, miután 24 órát töltöttek a szigeten.
Többségük szubszaharai migráns, akik a fekete afrikaiak elleni rasszista támadások hulláma után menekültek Tunéziából.
„A tunéziaiak nem akartak ott látni, nem szerettek minket, nem éreztük magunkat szívesen látottnak. Ezért mentünk el. Nem deportáltak a sivatagba. A barátaimat igen. Tudjuk, hogy emberek haltak meg ott” – mondta egy nő, aki Elefántcsontpartról érkezett.
„A háború miatt hagytam el Burkinát. Tunéziába mentem, hogy Olaszországba utazhassak. Ott nem bírtam ki. Nagyon nehéz volt, mert nem szeretik a feketéket” – magyarázta egy másik.
A migránsoknak általában meg kell várniuk, hogy felszállhassanak a hajóra, amíg az összes utas elhagyja a hajót.

„A helyiek vegyes érzelmeket táplálnak a szigeten élő migránsokkal kapcsolatban. Azt mondták nekünk, hogy a kezdeti időkhöz képest javult az a mód, ahogyan a helyi hatóságok mostanában kezelik ezeket a partraszállásokat. És úgy érzik, hogy az emberek megszokták, hogy a migránsok itt élnek, másrészt viszont azt mondták nekünk, hogy aggódnak a sziget hírneve és a látogatók véleménye miatt.”
„Nagyon nagy a szolidaritás itt a helyiek között, megérdemelnék a Nobel-békedíjat. A nyári szezon beköszöntével sokan lemondják a foglalásukat a rossz reklámkampányt követően. Ez pedig sokak számára problémává válhat” – mondta egy lampedusai.
Az első bevándorlók a ’90-es évek elején szálltak partra Lampedusán. Az új emberek befogadása valójában a sziget dns-ének része. Akkoriban nem volt még számukra központ, a helyi családok szokták befogadni a migránsokat otthonaikban.
Robbanásszerűnek nevezte az idei migrációs adatokat Matteo Biffoni, az olaszországi polgármesterek szövetségének (Anci) migrációs felelőse egy szerdai interjúban. Kijelentette azt is, hogy a római kormány belföldi migránselosztási rendszerére a baloldali polgármesterek nemet mondanak.
