Rakétatámadás érte az iraki Anbar tartománybnan található Ain Al-Aszad légi bázist, ahol a térség amerikai katonái is szoktak állomásozni.
A Sputnik hírügynökség beszámolója szerint az Egyesült Államok vezette koalíció egyik helyi főhadiszállását két rakéta is érte, ám egy üres udvarrészre zuhant mindkettő.
Wayne Marotto, a koalíció szóvivője elmondta, hogy a támadás során ugyan személyi sérülés nem történt, viszont a hangárban történt károkozás, ezért vizsgálják az esetet.
Egyelőre a támadásért nem vállalta fel senki a felelősséget, és a katonai koalíció megerősítette, hogy mivel a támadás idején nem tartózkodtak a bázison, mindenki megúszta sérülés nélkül.
Irakban az elmúlt idők során ismételten növekedni kezdtek a lokális feszültségek, február közepén például az Erbil légi bázist érte rakétatámadás, melynek következtében egy ember meghalt és legalább kilencen megsérültek.
Azért a támadásért egy kisebb siíta milícia vállalta a felelősséget, amely nem volt összefüggésbe hozható nagyobb szervezetekkel. Nechirvan Brazani, az iraki kurdok vezetője akkor felkérte az ENSZ-t és az ENSZ Biztonsági Tanácsát, hogy tegyenek meg többet a régió védelméért.
