A tiltakozó egy „End UK private jets”, azaz körülbelül „Tiltsák be a magánrepülőgépeket Nagy-Britanniában!”-feliratú pólóban és egy öngyújtóval szaladt be a pályára. Ott valószínűleg olajjal leöntötte a jobb karját, majd felgyújtotta azt, amivel együtt a pálya egy része is lángolni kezdett.

A férfi a klímaváltozás elleni harcra akarta felhívni a figyelmet az akciójával, amely összefüggésben lehet a vele nagyjából egy időben zajló nyolcadik globális klímasztrájkkal. A tiltakozót a biztonságiak kísérték ki a mérkőzésről, ügyét most a rendőrség kezeli.
Federer szeptember 15-én jelentette be, hogy távozik a profi teniszből, nem sokkal később pedig azt is elárulta: a Laver-kupán játszott utolsó meccsén régi riválisával, Nadallal párosban fognak játszani.
