A svéd egészségügyi hatóságok bejelentették az mpox vírus Clade 1b variánsának első európai esetét.
A svéd közegészségügyi ügynökség tájékoztatása szerint a beteg Afrikából hozta be Svédországba a majomhimlő (mpox) vírus új, súlyosabb változatát. Ez az első alkalom, hogy a Clade 1b variánst Európában azonosították.
Olivia Wigzell, az ügynökség igazgatója elmondta, hogy a fertőzött személy egy olyan afrikai országban járt, ahol nemrégiben jelentős járványkitörés volt. A beteg a fővárosi régióban jelentkezett orvosi ellátásra, ám Wigzell hangsúlyozta, hogy ez nem jelent szélesebb körű fenyegetést Stockholm lakosságára nézve.
Az mpox vírus már régóta ismert Közép- és Nyugat-Afrika trópusi esőerdőiben, ahol évente ezres nagyságrendben regisztrálnak eseteket. Két évvel ezelőtt egy enyhébb, Clade 2 variáns okozott járványt a kontinensen, az idei kitörés azonban a veszélyesebb Clade 1b variánshoz köthető, amely a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban kezdődött, és a hivatalos adatok szerint már 450 halálos áldozatot követelt.

Az új variáns jóval magasabb halálozási arányt mutat, ugyanis becslések szerint minden 100 fertőzöttből 4 esetben végzetes kimenetelű a betegség. A vírus elsősorban közeli érintkezéssel terjed, főként a bőr sérülésein keresztül, de a légúti terjedés is lehetséges. A tünetek között szerepelnek az influenzaszerű panaszok és a jellegzetes kiütések is.
A járvány Kongóból már több szomszédos országra is átterjedt, köztük Burundira, Kenyára és Ruandára. Az idei év során több mint 14 ezer gyanús esetet és 500-nál több halálesetet jelentettek, amelyek 96%-a az elmúlt hónapban történt.
Az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) a svéd bejelentést megelőzően nem sokkal közegészségügyi vészhelyzetet hirdetett az új járvány miatt.

New York városának vezetése közegészségügyi veszélyhelyzetet hirdetett a majomhimlő terjedése miatt helyi idő szerint szombaton, a várost a járvány gócpontjának nevezve.
A metropolisz akár 150 ezer lakója lehet veszélyeztetett – idézte a brit The Guardian online kiadása Eric Adams polgármestert és Ashwin Vasan egészségügyi vezetőt. A veszélyhelyzet bejelentése lehetővé teszi, hogy a fertőzés terjedésének lassítására sürgősségi rendeleteket adjanak ki és intézkedéseket hajtsanak végre a városi egészségügyi törvény alapján.
Az elmúlt két napban New York állam kormányzója, Kathy Hochul katasztrófahelyzetet hirdetett, az állam egészségügyi hivatala a majomhimlőt a közegészségügyet közvetlenül fenyegető veszélynek nevezte.
New York államban péntekig 1345 esetet regisztráltak, a második legtöbb fertőzést, 799-et Kaliforniában igazolták az amerikai járványügyi központ (CDC) adatai alapján.
Az ENSZ Egészségügyi Világszervezete (WHO) globális egészségügyi veszélyhelyzetnek nyilvánította a majomhimlőt július 23-án. Csütörtökön San Francisco polgármestere szükségállapotot hirdetett az esetek növekvő száma miatt.
A nemrég még ritka betegség Közép- és Nyugat Afrika egyes részein évtizedek óta létezik, de májusig nem volt ismert, hogy Afrikán kívül is okozott volna nagyobb járványt. Májusban Európában, Észak-Amerikában és más területeken regisztrálták járványok kitörését.
Azóta majdnem 80 ország több mint 22 ezer esetét jelentették, Afrikában – mindenek előtt Nigériában, és Kongóban – nagyjából 75 haláleset gyanúja merült fel. Pénteken Brazília és Spanyolország jelentett egy-egy olyan halálozást, mely a majomhimlőhöz köthető. Spanyolországban szombaton egy második halálozás is történt.
A majomhimlőt okozó vírus bőrfelületek hosszan tartó érintkezésével, ágynemű, törölköző és ruházat közös használatával terjed.
A jelenlegi járványban azonosított vírus ritkán vezet halálozáshoz, a fertőzöttek általában néhány hét alatt meggyógyulnak, azonban a vírus okozta bőrelváltozások és hólyagok fájdalmasak. A kórokozó a sérülékenyebb – többek között legyengült immunrendszerű emberek és várandós nők – esetében kelt aggodalmat.

Már két halálos áldozata van a majomhimlőnek Spanyolországban – derül ki az egészségügyi minisztérium szombati járványjelentéséből.
Az első majomhimlővel fertőzött spanyolországi – egyben európai – beteg halálát pénteken jelentették be, részletek közlése nélkül.
Az egészségügyi minisztérium szombaton sem közölt részleteket a halálos áldozatokról. A spanyol média úgy tudja, hogy az első áldozat Valencia tartományban hunyt el agyvelőgyulladásban, a majomhimlő okozta szövődményben.
Európában ez az első két ismert, majomhimlő okozta haláleset. Az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) július 23-ai jelentése összesen öt halálesetről tudott, kizárólag Afrikában. Később Brazíliából jelentették egy páciens halálát.
A spanyol minisztériumi jelentés szerint eddig 4298 esetben igazolták a fertőzést a dél-európai országban, és az azonosított 3700 páciens közül 120-an kerültek kórházba. A páciensek 82 százaléka szexuális úton kapta el a majomhimlőt.
A fertőzöttek között 10 hónapos és 88 éves beteg is van. A vírus az ország minden tartományában megjelent, a legnagyobb mértékben Madridban és Katalóniában, 1600 és 1400 diagnosztizált esettel.
A WHO július 23-án jelentette be, hogy a több mint 70 országban megjelent majomhimlő terjedése egészségügyi szempontból immár „rendkívüli helyzetet” eredményezett, amelyet álláspontja szerint emiatt mostantól globális vészhelyzetnek kell tekinteni.
Habár a majomhimlő már évtizedek óta jelen van Közép- és Nyugat-Afrika egyes részein, eddig nem okozott járványt az afrikai földrészen kívül. A hatóságok csak idén májusban figyeltek fel az európai, észak-amerikai és ázsiai fertőzési hullámokra.
Mivel Spanyolország az egyik leginkább érintett ország jelenleg, elsőként kapta meg az uniós Egészségügyi Szükséghelyzet-reagálási Hatóságon (HERA) keresztül az Imvanex nevű, feketehimlő elleni védőoltás 5300 adagját, mert tapasztalatok szerint az oltóanyagot eredményesen alkalmazzák a majomhimlő esetében is.
A központi uniós beszerzésből érkezett a majomhimlő kezelésére használt Tecovirimat nevű vírusellenes készítményből is. Az antivirális szert elsősorban azoknál a betegeknél alkalmazzák, akiknél a kór súlyos tüneteket okoz.

A városban 261 volt az ismert majomhimlős esetek száma július 27-ig. A polgármester a Twitteren írt arról, hogy augusztus elsejétől veszélyhelyzetet léptet életbe a megbetegedés miatt: arról is írt, hogy főként az LMBTQ-közösségben terjed a vírus, de a város összes lakosának életére hatással van a járvány.
Vészhelyzeti tervek létrehozása mellett forrásokat csoportosítanak át a helyzet kezelésére, a városszerte működő szervezetek munkáját is összehangolják a témában, valamint igyekeznek a majomhimlő terjedéséről szóló információkat szélesebb körben terjeszteni. Mindezen túl több oltást és segítséget kérnek, írja a Sky News.
Susan Philip, San Francisco egészségügyi tisztviselője arról beszél, rugalmasságot szeretnének, hogy erőforrásaik felhasználását optimalizálhassák.
„Szeretnénk megerősíteni elkötelezettségünket a San Franciscó-i LMBTQ-közösségek egészsége iránt is, ahogyan azt városunk történelmileg mindig is tette” – tette hozzá, utalva a majomhimlő által eddig leginkább érintett népességre.
8200 adag vakcinához jutott eddig a város, amelyek a himlő és a majomhimlő megelőzésére egyaránt alkalmasak – viszont Philip szerint 35 ezer adagot kértek.
„Három hét alatt ennek a mennyiségnek mindössze harmadát kaptuk meg. Ez közel sem elég, és az igazság az, hogy 35 ezer oltásnál is jóval többre lesz szükségünk az LMBTQ-közösség védelmére és a vírus terjedésének lassítására. Tisztában vagyunk azzal, hogy országszerte oltóanyaghiány van, ennek ellenére ezeket a vakcinát gyorsan szét kell osztani az olyan helyekre, mint San Francisco, ahol aránytalanul nagy az esetek aránya” – mondta.
Az esetek felismerésében a tesztelésnek hatalmas szerepe van, ugyanakkor a CNN cikke szerint sokkolóan alacsony az erre beküldött minták száma. A kapacitás meglenne: heti 80 ezer mintát képes az Egyesült Államok vizsgálni, ebből 70 ezret magánlaborokban – a Mayo Clinic Laboratories ezer mintát tudna elemezni, de csak 45 fut be hozzá egy hét alatt.
Az emberek információhiány mellett sokszor azért sem teszteltetik magukat, mert tartanak a betegség diagnózisával járó stigmától is.

Rendkívüli ülést tartott szombaton az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO), ahol többek között arról is döntött, hogy nemzetközi aggodalomra okot adó közegészségügyi vészhelyzetnek minősül-e a majomhimlő egyre fokozódó terjedése.
Még szombaton jelentette be az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO), hogy a majomhimlő terjedése egyelőre nem jelent közegészségügyi vészhelyzetet. Ugyanakkor a szervezet főigazgatója, Tedrosz Adhanom Gebrejeszusz szerint továbbra is komoly aggodalmak övezik a jelenlegi járvány mértékét és sebességét – számolt be a Forbes.
A lap cikkében azt írja, hogy a WHO testülete egy rendkívüli ülés keretében döntött arról, nemzetközi aggodalomra okot adó közegészségügyi vészhelyzetnek minősül-e a majomhimlő egyre fokozódó terjedése.
A bizottság közleményében megjegyezte, hogy a majomhimlős eseteknél a közelmúltban bekövetkezett emelkedés a „melegek, a biszexuálisok és a más férfiakkal szexuális kapcsolatot fenntartók” közösségeire korlátozódott, akiket korábban nem oltottak be himlő ellen.
A WHO ugyanakkor arra figyelmeztet, hogy a lakosság szélesebb körében is fennáll a további, tartós átvitel veszélye.
A majomhimlő egy állati eredetű vírusfertőzés, amely a rettegett fekete himlőhöz hasonló bőrkiütést okoz. Emberről emberre terjedése viszonylag ritka, de a két betegség pusztán klinikai tünetek alapján történő megkülönböztetése nehézkes lehet.
A majomhimlővírus ezért felmerül a bioterrorizmus lehetséges fegyverei között. A majomhimlő által okozott halálos fertőzés ritkább ugyan a fekete himlőnél, de korántsem elhanyagolható.
