A 450 kilogrammos bombát egy halász találta meg – mondta el a Reuters hírügynökségnek Marco Nasi ezredes. A 240 kilogramm robbanóanyagot tartalmazó eszközt a Borgo Virgilio nevű lombardiai falu közelében fedezték fel júliusban.
Mintegy 3000, közelben lakó embernek kellett elhagynia az otthonát, hogy vasárnap ellenőrzött körülmények között felrobbanthassák a bombát.
„Néhány lakos először azt mondta, nem mozdul, de az utolsó napokban sikerült mindenkit meggyőzni” – magyarázta Francesco Apori polgármester.
A Pó a leghosszabb olasz folyó, az Alpokban ered és az Adriai-tengerbe torkollik. A 65 kilométer hosszú folyam jelentős szakaszai száradtak ki az országot sújtó, 70 éve nem tapasztalt aszály alatt. A múlt hónapban veszélyhelyzetet hirdettek a folyómenti területeken a vízhiány miatt. A Pó az olasz mezgazdasági művelés alá vont földek egyharmadát látja el vízzel.
A hőség és a csapadékhiány miatt a folyam áramlása annyira meggyengült, hogy a gazdák szerint a tengerből sós víz szivárog a mederbe, tönkretéve a terményeket.
