Holtan találták meg kedden a Mont Blanc-on azt a négy – két olasz és két dél-koreai – hegymászót, aki a hétvégi heves viharokban tűnt el az Alpok legmagasabb hegyén, a csúcsra francia oldalon vezető útvonalon.
Két olasz és két dél-koreai hegymászó eltűnését jelentette az Aosta-völgyi Hegyimentő Szolgálat a Mont Blanc olaszországi oldalát sújtó heves viharok után. A chamonix-i hegyimentőket eredetileg három mászópáros eltűnése miatt riasztották szombaton délután.
Egy koreai hegymászópárost vasárnap reggel sikerült is épségben lehozni 4100 méteres magasságból egy nagyon bonyolult mentőakcióban, a két másik csapat utáni kutatást azonban a romló időjárási feltételek miatt kénytelenek voltak félbeszakítani mind a francia, mind az olasz mentőegységek.
A szerencsétlenül járt olasz és koreai alpinistákat helikopterről lokalizálták a csúcs közelében, mintegy 4700 méteres magasságban, a mentők szerint kihűlésben haltak meg.
A 4806 méteres Mont Blanc az Alpok, Nyugat-Európa és az Európai Unió legmagasabb hegye.

Mentőhelikopterrel, hóviharban próbálták a hegyimentők megmenteni a hegymászókat, de csak az egyikük élte túl. Két olasz hegymászó megfagyott az Olaszország és Svájc határán húzódó Pennini-Alpokban; az egyik nő percekkel a mentők megérkezése után hunyt el. A másikat még élve vitték egy menedékházba, de az ő életét sem tudták megmenteni. A csoport tagja volt egy férfi is, akit kihűléssel és fagyásos kézsérülésekkel helikopterrel Svájcba szállítottak.
Az alpinisták a Monte Rosa-masszívum déli részén, a Vincent-piramis nevű 4215 méteres hegycsúcs megmászása közben kerültek hóviharba, és bár hívtak segítséget, az Aosta-völgyi mentők csak órák elteltével, este 9 óra tájban értek tudtak kiérni a helyszínre – írta az MTI. A Vincent-piramis az olasz–svájci határtól egy kilométerre délre található, rajta húzódik két olasz tartomány, Aosta-völgy és Piemonte határa.
