Az eset a Stuttgarttól nyugatra fekvő Sindelfingen városában lévő üzem területén történt. A rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint csütörtök reggel 8 óra körül érkeztek az első hívások a lövöldözéssel kapcsolatban.
A lövöldözés helyszíne az 56-os sorszámű üzem volt, ahol az S-osztályt gyártják. A helyszínt a hatóságok lezárták, a mentők és a rendőrség is nagy erőkkel vonult ki a helyszínre, ahová mentőhelikopter is érkezett.
A rendőrség az elkövetőt elfogta, akinek az indítéka egyelőre ismeretlen.
A sindelfingeni Mercedes-Benz gyár több mint 100 éves, így a cég egyik legrégebbi gyártóüzeme. Körülbelül 35 000 ember dolgozik a vállalatnál.
