Újabb trópusi vihar formálódott a Mexikói-öbölben, amit Miltonnak keresztelt el az amerikai Nemzeti Hurrikánközpont (National Hurricane Center – NHC). A vihar Florida felé tart, az előrejelzések szerint útközben hurrikánná is erősödhet, mire jövő hét szerda-csütörtök magasságában eléri az állam partjait.
Az újabb vihar alig több mint egy hét után követi a Helene nevű hurrikánt, amely hatalmas pusztítást végzett az USA délkeleti részén, több mint 200 ember halálát okozva, de a hatóságok még mindig százakat keresnek.
Joe Biden amerikai elnök, aki csütörtökön a levegőből vette szemügyre a floridai pusztítást, több milliárd dollárra becsülte a károkat. S,ok település máig áramszolgáltatás és vezetékes ivóvíz nélkül van, több megközelíthetetlen.

Az Egyesült Államok a Mexikói-öbölben a nyersolajtermelés mintegy 29, a földgázénak pedig a 17 százalékát állította le Helene hurrikán miatt – közölte szerdán a környezetvédelmi hivatal. Ez napi 511 ezer hordó olaj és közel 313 millió köbméter földgáz kitermelésének a kiesését jelenti.
A hurrikán közép-európai idő szerint szerda este a floridai Tampától mintegy 775 kilométerre dél-délnyugatra helyezkedett el, a maximálisan fenntartható szél sebessége 130 kilométer volt óránként az amerikai Nemzeti Hurrikánközpont jelentése szerint.
Szerdáig 17 olaj- és gázkitermelő platformot evakuáltak, ami a Mexikói-öbölben található összes olaj- és gázkitermelő platform mintegy 4,6 százaléka.
Többek között a Chevron is közölte, hogy leállítja a termelést az általa üzemeltetett mexikói-öbölbeli létesítményekben, és evakuálja a személyzetet.
A norvég olajtermelő Equinor szintén közölte, hogy kedd reggel óta leállította a műveleteket, és evakuálta a személyzetet a Mexikói-öbölben lévő Titan platformjáról.
Az Egyesült Államok hazai olajtermelésének mintegy 15, a földgázénak pedig a 2 százaléka származik a Mexikói-öbölből.
Életveszélyes vihar lesz
A BBC tudósítása szerint a Helene várhatóan veszélyes, 3-as kategóriájú viharrá erősödik, amikor helyi idő szerint csütörtökön lecsap az amerikai partokra. Életveszélyes vihardagályok, áradások és széllökések várhatók Florida jelentős és az ország délkeleti részén.
Ron DeSantis floridai kormányzó veszélyhelyzetet hirdetett az állam szinte egész területére.
Előtte várhatóan végigpusztítja a mexikói Yucatán-fészigetet, olyan híres turistaközpontok is veszélyben vannak, mint Cancún és Cozumel. A baleset december 15-én történt a Terrebonne-öböltől délre, nagyjából 97 kilométerre nyugatra attól a területtől, ahol most a baleset történt.

Louisiana állam partjainál a Mexikói-öbölben hat embert kimentettek, de többen eltűntek, amikor felborult egy közel 40 méteres kereskedelmi hajó – számolt be az Origo.
Az amerikai parti őrség kedden délután kapott vészjelzést, és egyik hajójuk 30 percen belül a helyszínre is érkezett. A legénység két tagját a parti őrség mentette meg, négyet pedig civil hajókon érkezők.
A nagyszabású mentési akció késő estig folytatódott, melybe kisebb hajók mellett egy helikopter és egy repülőgép is bekapcsolódott.
Azt egyelőre nem lehet tudni, hogy hányan tűntek el – írja a Sky News, de állítólag 18 ember tartózkodott a fedélzeten a baleset idején.
A hajót kőolaj és földgáz feltárására használják.
